I just picked up a box that appears to be German manufactured .30-06 FMJ. Its head stamped OJP, 61, IV. Anyone fired this? Collectible or not? Safe to shoot period? Berdan primed or boxer? Corrosive?

OJP....Österreichische Jagdpatronenfabrik, Kramsach, Tirol, Austria

IV.... Hirtenberger case and priming

61....production year 1961

Supposedly non-corrosive, 150gr. Lead core, open flat base, copper washed gilding metal jacketed bullet, pointed, No canular, sealed bullet and primer.

Some say it is loaded with stick powder and if so, should be Berdan primed and corrosive, yet some sources indicate stick or flake powder and Boxer prime and non-corrosive.

Guess you'll have to yank a bullet and see!

No collector value reported, rumored to be loaded for machine guns and is loaded very 'hot', this is the rumor, I do not have any information to support this claim either way.

Guess it might be corrosive.....right about the bullet, after reading your post, I read the info. again, it does say it was loaded with and without canular type bullets along with other configurations, but that particular cartridge is a 147gr. with a groove. My Bad, should ahve finished the read! lol

From what I have seen it is a pretty warm load. My M-1 does not much care for the stuff as it tends to have the extractor cut tru the rims. Recoil seems to be more than US M-2.

Yes, forgot to mention part of the issue with OJP ammo is some have tested the tar sealer for the bullet and it's hardened to like cement.

I'd be lying if I told you exactly what the release pressure was but it was MUCH more great than US M2 ball for example. That was tested by someone a few years back on one of the boards as part of the problem with this particular ammo.

The 147 gr. bullet must have been a fluke. The others were right around 151gr. I pullet the bullets and tried my best to recreate M1906 Ball. 46.7 gr of IMR 4064 (per sierra's data) and landed me with my new Eddystone at 2715. These flat based FMJ are more accuate than the 147 FMJBT's I tried earlier today.
