I've got a shooter grade 1944 Sako M39 inbound ($200 at Empire Arms) that I'm planning on scout scoping and using for hunting (and blasting at the range-who'm I kidding).

Given the paucity of premium bullet hunting ammo, this will be leading me to my first expedition into reloading for rifles.

What dies would ya'll recomend? I read through the reviews on Midway, and right now I'm leaning toward RCBS, since they come with expanders in both .308 and .310, and most Mosins tend to be in the .310-.312 range. Most of the others either had some complaints that they were .308 or didn't say.

Oh, and we've got a new Sportsman's Warehouse opening in town on Saturday, and they sent out $10 off coupons in the mail, so I'm hoping to us it on dies. :)

I bought the RCBS dies for the exactly the same reason. I thought including the .308 and .310 expander was good selling point.

I also load for a M39 VKT barrel (bought it 'unissued' from WG&A), as well as an M91/30 and a couple M38s. I haven't really loaded any x54R for those rifles in almost a year, though.

I use Lee dies for loading for my Mosin Nagants. The load I made in the fall of last year used the 174 grain round nose Hornady bullet (3130). I put a scout scope on my M44, and with that load got 5 rounds in a .7" circle at 50 yards.

I think Lee has a .311 spindle available for their 7.62x54 die set. That said, I ended up with RCBS.
