What brand of torque wrench should I purchase to tighten the assorted heads on my rifles and scopes?/ I was told you can improve the Accuracy and shrink groups a little if you can find the sweet spot on some of the lugs?? any Thoughts...How many inch pounds?? Maybe a Snap on Digital 1/4 inch drive or is that overkill Thanks :D

I got a Neiko Pro 10-50 inch-lb torque screwdriver from amazon.com for around $50 or so including some bits. So far it works great. I have not attempted to calibrate it (who has multiple in-lb drivers?) but it seems like a quality tool and is easy to use.

Keep in mind the type of fasteners and the very modest torque ratings on them.

I've disassembled a couple of torque wrenches having design somewhat similar to Neiko one - this kind of design does not provide any built-in means for calibration, except changing the free length of the spring by grinding the ends or, alternatively, adding the shim washers.

There is a new brand in play now, Borka Tools multi torque driver, made in the U.S.A. You can google "Borka torque driver" or just look here to start with:

It'll be also offered for sale in "Accessories for sale" section in the nearest couple of days.

Snap-On's torque wrenches are made by Precision Instruments and are marked up about 50%

You will find the most accuracy with a dial type wrench

As Mishka noted in the post on Snipers Hide the tool is currently offered by Brownell's and retails for $69.99 (one cent less than the Borka site  ). The difference is that the one talked up in the post is a spiffier "Military Grade" as supplied to the armed forces - laser-etched markings, a bit more GI-proof and with a nifty carrying case so you can attach one more thing to your web gear (sorry, showing my age: MOLLE gear :neener: ).

After reading all the reviews on the FAT wrench, it sounds like a crap shoot on getting one that the tip doesn't fall off. The + and - posts were from all the place in the past 3 years. The Brownell's/basic Borka offering has my attention now that I realize that I, too, have been strong-arming those screws all these years... :scrutiny:

I read all the reviews of the "FAT" torque wrench and after reading those reviews I wouldn't touch one with a 10' pole.

I'm very happy with my Neiko. However, I hadn't known about the Borka design (it appears to be new since I bought mine), and for $70 I would probably give it a try, if I was in the market right now.

Don't know who makes the Craftsman wrenches, but I have had good luck with them so far.

Borka Tools multi torque driver is actually a very different design, and it wouldn't be right to compare it with Snap-on, Neiko, etc at any price level. It delivers 12 fixed torque settings with accuracy/consistency of high quality fixed single torque setting driver like, for example, Seekonk, and is made to be resistant to environment and certain abuse. Most people don't need all these features, but certain category of users, including military, LE and civilian long range shooters, who need to carry tools with them, and are interested in high consistency of their scope/action setups, seem to be in favor of this design.
