So I've got a full pound of Reloader-25 that I bought back when I was going to load heavy 30-06. I don't even have a 30-06 anymore. I know it's a slow, slow powder. There's no data for it in anything I load for. Expensive fertilizer....

I know this is a silly question- and I DO know better- but I've got an old Turk Mauser in good condition mechanically but rough cosmetically, some pulled-down Berdan primed 8mm brass and some 125-grain Hornady .323 bullets...all I want is can-plinking ammo. On slow powders there just isn't enough case volume to fit enough powder to get good results with most cases. With the light bullets and a slow powder, how about filling to the case neck with a repeatable volume of powder?

I think what you're considering is a bad idea. I at times delve into unpublished loads but ONLY after much agonizing and comparing with other loads using the same powder in other cartridges or better yet, plugging the data into Quick Load, and only in STRONG modern firearms in excellent condition.

You're all set, if you convert the Turk Mauser to a 25-06. Rel-25 is superb in those over-bore calibers.

In the 8mm Mauser, not so good. Capacity, relative to bore size, doesn't allow the real slow powders to develop consistent pressures to burn properly, especially with light bullets.
Probably not enough to cause detonation, but chances are, lack of consistency.
