I saw a Savage model 11 in .308 tonight.
Nice looking Rifle in over all "Like New" condition. Iron sight and a wood stock has the trigger upgrade.
I'm looking for a nice rifle as a G/P Hunting/Long Range Shooter/Defence Gun and other than dumping a lot of money in a semi auto I thought this might be a way to fill all three roles.
If you can help,
What rate of twist are these barrels?
Anyone have a Favorite Load for this?
What kind of ballpark accuracy can I expect?
How will it fit these three roles in your opinion?
Thanks
A/M

Having owned five Savages now I can tell you to expect very good out of the box accuracy, none of mine have let me down. Every rifle will shoot loads slightly different, but I can tell you a few good ballenced loads if you like, they should shoot very well. Your rate of twist is either a 10:1 or a 12:1 depends on the exact model. A bolt action rifle is great for LD shooting and hunting, but not so much for home defence, although one good shot with a 308 is all you would ever need the rate of fire is slow.

More than likely the model 11 should have a 1:10 twist. It should be a 1 moa shooter. You may have to search for a good load for it as they are all different. If you reload you should be able to get sub moa with it. Try a 165 to 168 gr bullet with 44. grns of varget as a starting point. This load shoots pretty good in most .308's. I have one of the first model 11's before the accutrigger came out. I've put in a timney trigger and bedded the action. Its been a good rifle and I've put a lot or rounds through it and never had any issues with it.
