There are two cases that might make it to SCOTUS if I am correct. One is out of Illinois, called Shepard v. Madigan and the other is out of New York Kachalsky et al v. County of Westchester.

So which of these cases has a better chance of success in SCOTUS?

Or would they combine the two?

Two completely different cases - one about a total ban, one about may issue. One could, but does not necessarily, affect the other.

We're waiting on the CA4 Woollard decision, that one would be similar enough to Kachalsky to have something to talk about.

Albeit they are two different issues as mentioned by Scimmia. But if SCOTUS could only hear 1 2A case it would likely be from Illinois. The restrictions for concealed carry in New York have fallen on deaf ears by the federal courts and redefined to be stricter by NYS Supreme Court.

The two cases involve different issues but rely on the resolution of a common issue: whether and to what extent the 2A extends to possession of a gun outside one's home.

The 7th Circuit case, obviously, has a much better chance of resulting in a pro-gun ruling at the Supreme Court because it involves a complete ban. The 2nd Circuit case is not a complete ban, but instead requires citizens to justify the carrying of weapons beyond a generalized right to self-defense. I'd guess that case would also result in a pro-gun ruling by the Supreme Court if it accepted the appeal.
