Ok cc has passed in Mo. Now what class do I need to take to be eligable to carry? Nobody seems to know not even my counties sherriff. This becomes law in 30 days, I need to know so I can apply. Another question, would the course I took in NY 8 years ago to get my carry license qualify me for this one?

Sheriff's departments statewide are in the process of trying to get a handle on the new law themselves. It'll probably take a few weeks to get the application/background check process smoothed out.

As for training, if you're close enough to St. Louis, Bull's Eye on Manchester has got some scheduling done on the classes (I'm taking mine a week from tomorrow, on the 21st). If not, you'll need to get training from an instructor certified by the NRA or by a local, state or federal law enforcement agency, or the Department of Public Safety, as competent to teach a firearms safety class. After a few weeks your local sheriff's department should be able to point you to a training resource. Find out what range the local coppers use or who they get training from, and whether or not those businesses or individuals will be teaching CCW classes.

Regarding your earlier class, the short answer is you probably need to take Missouri's class, due to some MO-specific stuff (relating to MO law) spelled out in the requirements. The training requirements are:

"....individual has taken and passed a firearms safety course of at least eight hours in length taught by the instructor that included:

(1) Handgun safety in the classroom, at home, on the firing range and while carrying the firearm;

(2) A physical demonstration performed by the applicant that demonstrated his or her ability to safely load and unload a revolver and a semiautomatic pistol and demonstrated his or her marksmanship with both;

(3) The basic principles of marksmanship;

(4) Care and cleaning of concealable firearms;

(5) Safe storage of firearms at home;

(6) The requirements of this state for obtaining a certificate of qualification for a concealed carry endorsement from the sheriff of the individual's county of residence and a concealed carry endorsement issued by the department of revenue (e.g., your instructor tells you how to go about the rest of the MO application process after the class - this one probably means your New York class won't work);

(7) The laws relating to firearms as prescribed in this chapter;

(8) The laws relating to the justifiable use of force as prescribed in chapter 563, RSMo (relates to Missouri's use of force statutes, not New York's);

(9) A live firing exercise of sufficient duration for each applicant to fire a handgun, from a standing position or its equivalent, a minimum of fifty rounds at a distance of seven yards from a B-27 silhouette target or an equivalent target;

(10) A live fire test administered to the applicant while the instructor was present of twenty rounds from a standing position or its equivalent at a distance from a B-27 silhouette target, or an equivalent target, of seven yards.

You can fail the class by:

- Not following the orders of the instructor or range officer
- Handles a firearm in a manner that, in the judgement of the qualified firearm safety instructor, poses a danger to the applicant or to others; or
- During the live fire test, failing to hit the silhouette target with at least 15 of your 20 rounds.
