I e-mailed this guy and told him that 9x23 is .38 super and that that 9mm Win Magnum is like 9x30. THis is what he sends me back...

You are incorrect. 9 x23 is the 9 mm win. magnum Just look it up on the winchester site. The shell casing is .250 longer than a 9mm luger/parabellum. The velocities and enery are much greater than a standard 9mm. In fact they are greater than most 40's too.

I want to e-mail him back but I kinda wanted to check my facts here first. Can anyone reassure me on this?

Edit: I see on Winchester site that they make a 9x23 and call it 9mm Win. Is this the same size as .38 super? On their site it seems to be a little faster. Did Colt ever make a pistol in this caliber?

The 9x23 Win is a specific cartridge... so specific Winchester would up having to pay royalties after losing a patent infringment suit.

The 9x23 is a VERY hot round in a very strong case... essentially a .223 Rem cut down to 23mm. A 125 gr bullet at 1,500 fps is easy for the 9x23 and factory loads are around 1,500 fps. I have loads that chrono over 1,800 fps from the 9x23.

The .38 Super is a nominal 23 mm long, but it is not the 9x23.

This sort of thing isn't unusel. There are a lot of cartiages with the same dimensions. There's the 9x18 Makarov, and the 9x18 Ultra. There is also at least three 9x19 cartiages as well.
