What does "Deregistered" mean?

I saw this on Gunbroker.
I have no interest in purchasing,
but what does "deregistered" mean?

"I just received a few NIB Colt LE6921 SBR Class 3 lowers. We have deregistered them and they are no longer an NFA item. These lowers are extremely rare and very popular lowers because they are used on true M4 builds. The receivers are marked M4LE. This receiver is the closest to a true M4 receiver that is sold for commercial sales. Complete de-registered LE6921s available in either black or military tan."

I am guessing that it means these lowers left the factory on an NFA gun but somehow their serial numbers have been taken off the list of NFA weapons?

Well the first thing wrong with the ad is there are no such thing as "class 3 lowers" - class 3 is a tax bracket, not an item.

Basically they left the factory as a 6921 with a barrel length regulated under the NFA.

You can optionally de-register the SBR with ATF. Basically you strike it from the registry and make the firearm Title 1 again and it is no longer a regulated title 2 item. Just like one can register an item, you can de-register it.

Maybe I'm missing something and I think I know you're answer but what would the benefits to this be?

As simple as the ATF no longer keeps record of that weapon or something a long those lines?

There is no benefit.

You are turning a Title 2 gun back to Title 1.

The benefits are only that the receiver and any "Title I" configuration rifle built on it will be sold just as any other AR-15 would be, and not have to be transferred on a Form 4 with all the corresponding tax, CLEO signoff, fingerprints, etc.

Of course, you can't legally build an SBR on it unless you choose to re-register it on a Form 1 first.

It should be pointed out here that deregistration applies only to SBR/SBS weapons. A registered machine gun cannot be deregistered, ever, for any reason.
