So I was wondering folks... before you got into this gun collecting thing, what else did you collect?

I used to buy guitars. I no longer play.
I used to buy laptops, PDAs and other gadgets (really expensive, with a short financial halflife).

I used to buy and ride bikes (I moved to rain central: Oregon).

Now I collect guns.

How 'bout you ladies and gents?

I like computers and other gadgets too...but I only buy what I need. Same with guns, except I need a helluva lot more! First gun in the collection- LC Smith .20 ga. SxS in 1969...10 years old at the time.

For me there was no "before".

I also have more folding knives than I can possibly use in a lifetime. And Parrots.

I used to collect baseball and Football cards in the 60's and 70's , ect. Market got crazy and that ended about 1993.

I have a few nice sets of golf clubs that are gathering dust.
I have a lot of fishing rods and tackle that get used a lot in the summer.
I have a pretty good collection of tools: general tools, automotive tools and woodworking tools. The woodworking tools get used quite a bit.
I also have a pretty good collection of pictures...of females. And not the artistic ones like posted on Oleg's site.

***Edit***

Trueblue1776,
Sounds like we have similar interests in collecting. I have a few big stupid dogs you might be interested in.

Old bottles. 'Specially the of interesting shape and/or color. Blue is highly prized.

Old brass keys.

Human skulls. Well, representations of skulls since the real things are hard to procure.

Figures and images of deities that have a dichotomous nature. Loki & Kali for example.

Oh yea. Cats as well, but since my space and finances are sadly finite, THAT collection is limited to four.

I watch Star Trek too...

I used to be an avid comic book collector, then the industry went all insane in the `90s. I no longer collect, I just read `em...

I'm a "movie buff" (or "film snob") and probably have more movies then some posters here on THR have bullets... and I mean the ones with the fully stocked ITEOTWAWKI Bunkers. When the world ends, you'll have food and water, but I'll have Audrey Hepburn. :D

I'm also a huge geek, and despite my age, still play Dungeons & Dragons, amongst other roleplaying and table-top war games. This isn't really a "collction" per se, but I've been buying "stuff" to feed this hobby for nigh on two decades... and I never get rid of anything. It has eaten my basement.

I also like swords, and own three or four; Actual battle-worthy ones, mind you, not wall hangers. (FYI, if anyone knows where I can find a goodprice on a Patton Sabre, lemme know!)

The sword thing and the rpgs... plus my history BA and old amature theatre days... have all condensed into turning my wife, dog, child and I into regulars at the local Ren Faire. If you've ever been to one and noticed those people with better costumes ("garb") then the people who are being paid to work there, well, that's us.

Swords, guns, comic book, RPGs, funny clothes... I am a GEEK!

Oh man, you guys are funny... and just as I suspected... alot like me. I, too, collect knives... and have always wanted a couple of really nice swords. I've got a pretty decent DVD collection (though won't admit to Audrey Hepburn)... and 2 cats. 2 lovely cats that I'm a slave to.

I will absolutely NOT admit to an Audrey Hepburn fetish, however. Besides, I can't afford any more DVD's; I'm saving for a 686.

I collect copper scrap. (brass scrap too) A 5 gallon bucket full = $$$

I used to collect horses. I wouldn't recommend collecting horses. I still have a few though, family "pets".

In another few years, I will be collecting DUST. ;)

I also have my son's music habit to feed...he currently has 5 guitars, sound / recording gear, tube amp & a couple of piercings :scrutiny: Oh, and school! What else could I collect?

Not so much collecting but my money pits are (alphebetic):

Bicycles - Mountain and Road
Guns - duh
Flashlights - EDC, Auto, Home, Office
Teenagers - Enough said
Truck - F150

I collect opportunities for everyone to get mad at me when I close off-topic threads. :(

Sorry, guys.
