What firearms to bring on a multistate extended road trip with social shooting

I have the opportunity to go on an extended road trip visiting friends and fun places. There will be social shooting (multitue of different things) and I will also make it to the NRAs Whittington Center to do some shooting. I am not worried about how to transport or what's legal or not.

The fortunate problem I have is to decide what to bring. Mostly this is trying not to bring too much so that it becomes a pain to bring it into motel rooms in the PM.

List below is what I plan to bring and why. What would you bring on an extended road trip with miscelaneous shooting? I should also say I don't worry so much about defending myself. Anything I take would be more than adequate and I would sleep just fine.

Rifle: 30-30 lever action. It's fun to shoot and good enough for any hunting or self defense needs.

Shotgun: Mossberg 500 with the 28" fixed choke barrel. Clay shooting will definately be done and even with the long barrel, it would be more than adequate to defend me.

Pistol: I struggle with this one. Likely either a Glock 30SF or XD Tactical in 45 ACP. One easier to conceal, the other a bit more fun to shoot at a range.

On the finge and may get left home: 22 LR rifle. I may pass on it. Three long arms starts to get to be a bit of a chore. Two long arms is already a bit more than I want to take but I'd be hard pressed to leave without my two favorite
 
Have you asked your friends what is available in their area? I'd sure hate to leave a. 22 pistol and/or rifle behind.
I have a Mossy 500, but would choose to travel with an o/u for skeet or clays.
Pistol choice seems pretty good to me.
A friend lives in Arizona, if I go visit I'll take a 10/22, an AR, and a Ruger Mk2. Probably an XD40 for social work.
Your milage may vary of course.
 
We go to the Whittington Center just about every Memorial day for a family outing with the kids and grandkids. Usually everybody has the most fun at the Hunter's Silhouette range with rimfires. Take at least a brick per person. There is a WalMart in Raton, but I wouldn't count on finding ammo there right now.

Also, their clay courses are outstanding. I take about 200 rounds of shotgun ammo for the weekend.
 
Thanks for the feedback. Looking like the 22 may make it based feedback. Luckily I have lots of 22 ammo. I don't yet have an O/U, my wife's nephew is supposed to be buying my 1990 mustang (discussed in another thread) and with that money I plan to get a nice O/U.
 
Two or three max unless someone is going to help you clean them once all the fun is over. I'd definately take a .22 cause everyone CAN shoot one. Also the .45ACP cause everyone WANTS to shoot one. And the 30-30 cause everyone NEEDS to shoot one.

Well, after re-reading your OP, I see you're taking the guns for YOU to shoot. I'd take the shotgun cause sporting clays is more fun than tying wax paper to your cat's paws and watching him try to run on a fresh waxed kitchen floor. :D
 
You probably will get more mileage out of the .22 and the XD. I would leave the 30-30 at home. You would also have less trouble keeping track of things. Also less ammo to deal with.

Good poInt on tracking things. Having a lever action 22 may negate the need for the 30-30.
