What gives with Ruger?

I've been searching high and low for a LCR .38, and haven't found one for a decent price yet. I just need a base model. No laser, standard Hogue tamer grip. They're just not to be found. I've found advertisements for them at $389 with $20 shipping, but they're always out of stock:fire:.
The ones in Gunbroker skyrocket in price on the last day of the auction.

Did the Ruger LCR factory burn down or something?
 
Ruger (and probably others) make runs of certain guns. They set up to do a batch, make a big batch, then move onto something else. I'm not sure how the lines and resources cross over, but I suspect that they know they can sell you that next year, and are busy cranking our SR 556s and normal capacity handguns right now.

I do feel your pain, I was waiting for the SR 1911 prices to drop just a little more before Newtown hit. There are Commander lengths in stores now, but not the 5 inch model. They'll come back around, eventually.
 
I'm pretty sure I saw one in my local dealer's display case last time I was there. PM me if you want his info.
 
Ruger's not outa bidness, just dang bizzy.

I saw a Ruger LC9 NRA model at a local store a couple weeks ago for $389. I should have grabbed it. :banghead:
Last week they had a LCR .38, but was bought while I was thinking about it. The other day when I stopped in to buy a .22 rifle for my grandson, they had a standard LC9 for 429.00. It got snapped up while I was signing my form for the rifle.

Keep a sharp eye out. They are coming in, but don't last long once they get there.
 
At least we still see Rugers from time to time, S&W is worse around here. When I call stores and ask about new revolvers they just chuckle. I've been wanting a 351, no one has one, no one can get one, no one knows if they'll ever see one. Meanwhile the normally $550 351's show up on GunBroker and sell for $1100. Its crazy.
 
Not enough supply to meet the demand and prices of those available adjust upward to accommodate the competition for the ones which are available.

Or as a dealer friend of mine would say:

"When I'm out of them they're $389 +shipping too."
 
What gives with Ruger is that there is more demand than supply. Your animosity should be directed toward your fellow panic-buying shooters. Not Ruger.
 
Indeed anything ruger is scarce right now. My lgs has been told by distributors that he needs to make orders direct from ruger. Before this panic he has never been able to make minimum order amount requirements before, but now he is ordering left and right. Such is the current market.
 
LGS here just had a huge Ruger sale this past weekend. Said it was the largest shipment of Ruger's they had ever gotten in. They had a ton of LCR's, selling the basic .38 model for $388. Had a lot of good prices for the current market for Ruger's.

Stop it! I drove by Larry's on Friday morning and there were people lined up around the building waiting to get in, so I just kept on driving.

I'm really regretting not stopping, now. :(
 
Trying to buy anything in this market is just plain ridiculous. I'm waiting till December unless I buy through the NRA Instructor discount program which Ruger has suspended till at least June to adjust for market conditions so maybe not even in December.

December we might see a whole bunch of second hand guns make their ways onto the used gun market. Till then I'm enjoying my Rossi 462 and Ruge Sp101 3.16"
 
Short answer: A lot of people have realized that they may not be able to get one in the future, or if they do get one in the future it will be in some kind of registry, so they're buying them now.

A lot of people have begun to realize that the government can ban any and all types of firearms whenever they want. There is currently lots of talk of mandatory national background checks. Many states are passing more restrictive gun laws.

For example, a lot of us lived through the 1994-2004 "AWB".

Another example, people in DC lived under the "Firearms Control Regulation Act of 1975", which restricted residents from owning handguns except for those registered prior to 1975, until it was struck down by District of Columbia vs Heller in 2008.

That only took 33 years.

Colorado and New York residents just got a lot "safer" due to new regulations.
 
Ruger is running five shifts and has hired over a hundred new people in the past year.
They are running round the clock, they're just not producing any one model round the clock.
Blame demand, there's nothing wrong with the company.

I've been at a couple Cabelas lately, they had LCR's in 38spl. @ $389.00 Saw a couple last week...

That was not animosity. I am merely voicing frustration. My J-Frame will work many, many years just fine.

Chevelle, I want a .38; not a .357.
