Currently working in Brazil, tons of "Brazilian Turkeys" (Emu) running around.....just curious as to what gun a person would ever use to take one of these?

A bola is the best tool and if you want a gun equivalent use a cannon with chain shot !!

I was trying to think what a "Brazilian Turkey" might be and all I could think of was a bird that had waxed its bikini line.

Whatever gun you use to shoot one of those suckers you'd better make sure its DRT because you're never going to outrun it and I wouldn't want to try and deal with a pi$$ed off emu.

If shotgun, an extra-full choke and #2s for a head shot, I'd guess.

If rifle, a non-expanding bullet and medium performance, for body shots.

I've been around a buddy's bunch of emus. They're quite dangerous if approached from the front and they're scared or mad. Safest if approached from the side.

Whatever it is it needs to be long range.
My step father used to raise Emus.
He was harvesting the eggs one day and 3 of them came from out of nowhere a beat the hell out of him.
2 weeks later we had an emu BBQ

Are you sure that the pic you posted is of an emu?

Looks less like an emu that a rhea (the native South American version of a big flightless etc...)

Apart from that, think of the bodyweight and whatever calibre you'd use for similar size crittur.
I know people who've decked them happily for years with .243s.

Cheers......... Peter

I've had ostrich before and it's pretty darn good.

12 ga. 3 inch #2 shot, or maybe even #4 buckshot... headshots only there is a lot of meat on a bird that big.

Cooch....I don't know the big bird species that well, but the folks in Brazil call them Emu's....maybe there are different sub species? Took this picture in the Matto Grosso area near Rondonopolis.
