I've had a few deals where I've gotten guns for less than what they were worth but I can't say I was surprised by them. But for a new gun, paying what was then the low end of the current market price, I'd have to say a RAP 401 or 440.
I paid $199 for my 401, new with two factory mags. It's a surprisingly high quality gun. The finish is perfect and there's not a machining mark anywhere on it including inside the slide. Plus it's got some nice features like having a decocker and being DA/SA. The first time I had it on the range I even had someone ask me if it was a SIG!
I happened to have my P229 with me so I showed him the real thing but I could also see where he could have made his mistake.
On top of all that, the RAP is surprisingly accurate for having such a short barrel. And, after finding out that it didn't care much for Wolf ammo (a problem common to several of my pistols), it's been 100% reliable. Actually it's never failed with Wolf after the first three mags so it might have been a quick break-in problem. However I'll stick with brass cased ammo in it from now on. BTW, it'd be a fine carry piece but I probably never will. It's pretty far down on the list behind my Kahr's, SIG's, Beretta's, 1911's, . . .
Second to the RAP's I'll go along with the Bersa .380's. The only problem I have with them is that the machining, while perfectly servicable, is often pretty rough. You can see that's where some of the economy of the Bersas comes from. They're better guns than they look like.
