What happened to used S&W revolver prices?

I made several purchases of used S&W revolvers over a four year stretch (2002 - 2006). I'm glad I did. During that time period I saw the prices climb steadily. Incidentally I've seen Model 28's, Model 15's and even Model 10's decrease in their numbers at local shops over the past few years.

The Internet played a big part in sparking my interest. Apparently I'm not unique.

I have over 60 s&w at present. The best envestment that i could have made. And i get to play with them. Try that with your 401k.

I have traded some very fine specimens in my life. Many will not be replaced for many reasons. Some beat 401k many times over in value over the years, and here I refer to guns in general as well as Smiths.

What if the lock proponents get more "assault" limitations in? It will sky rocket prices on quality semi autos.

On the practical side, (certainly classy Smiths are very nice) the revolvers tended to go away because Leo's were out gunned. So my collection favors classy well made semi autos as well. They are price climbing as well.

The same do gooders advocating against guns are often found at the gun counters trying to buy some when the race riots come to their neighborhoods.
Of course that is a little late for finding some back up.

Colt revolver prices made some significant market based adjustments during 2005 and 2006. Prices seem to have stabalized for now. I think many of the same folks are buying Smith revolvers in 2006 and 2007 and I think you will see the market flatten out next year on pre-lock Smiths. The price will not decline short of having a major recession or depression in the USA.

"Nobody who knows anything about it wants the guns with the stinkin' locks!"

Darn it, after 40 adult years of handgunning, I was beginning to think I knew something about them but I guess not:rolleyes:

A few .44's - the "lock" gun is on the far right:

I bought my '73-vintage Model 67 during February '07, paying $425 -- $50 "too high" at that time. I believe that it will be worth $475 to $500 shortly. It works and looks better than when purchased as I know how to make Smiths "sing". You've GOT to love this stuff!:D

Don't know if this would be of interest to you, but Bud's Gun Shop has S&W 65's SS police trade ins for $279 right now. Is this a possible good buy to get in on? I'm not a big revolver fan and I don't know much about this particular model.

I am glad for $449 I didn't have to do anything to it.
