What is the best cheap .45 target ammo?

I don't think my local walmart carries the 9mm value packs much less the .45 and I typically order ammo online by the case anyways. S&B looks promising at $9.50 a box and I've had good luck with their .357, but is there anything out there cheaper that's just as good?

And who has a good deal on .45acp Remington Golden Sabers in 185gr. +P?

CCI Blazer. nonreloadable, but dirt cheap, reliable, consistent, accurate, and cleaner than winchester whitebox. Hell I use CCI Blazer JHP as my defense round also. I get it from Natchez's

I agree. I have shot thousands of rounds of CCI Blazer without any sort of problems what-so-ever. I carry it often times in my truck guns and the like as well ... can't argue with something that ALWAYS goes BANG!

The problem with my local WallyWorld store is that the ammo counter is manned by 15 yr. olds that don't know their butt from third-base when it comes to ammo. Well, I'm a guy who doesn't take no for an answer; when I heard that "wally" would be selling 40S&W and .45ACP Value Packs, I asked for the Sporting Goods Mgr., and then the Store Mgr., and told them to either start ordering the 9mm ($10.96), 40S&W ($14.97), and .45ACP ($19.97) Value Packs, or order me case lots of the 9mm and .40S&W; lo & behold, all three caliber Value Packs started showing on the shelves this week.

In addition, ask around, see if there are folks in your area who reload; there is a guy near me who does really good 230 gr FMJ .45ACP for $5.00/50 bulk-packed, if you supply the brass. Since this is strictly a sideline for him, he doesn't do .40S&W reloads.

Good point about having to drop kick wally worldd every once in a while. My locals are nice, just, uh, challenged. Had ol'Harold tell me they have no .45s on hand when I bought mine. I cheerfully pointed out that that case by his feet was marked ".45".

I've found that my Kimber really likes lead bullets and weights other than 230 grain for the tightest groups. Sometimes it pays to experiment a bit.

Not sure where you live, but here in the southeast, you'll occassionally see a brand called 'Rebel Ammo'. My advice: stay as far away from this crap as possible. I bought a couple boxes awhile back (9mm and .38). When the 9mm tried to feed, the bullet would frequently get pushed back into the cartridge. After it happened 3 or 4 times in the first mag, I checked each round. I could push the bullets back with my thumb on about 75% of the ammo. Needless to say, I stopped trying to shoot it.

Berg, that guy could get in a pinch for selling ammo he made without an FFL if he charges you for it. I know it is stupid, but that is the way it is. Keep it quiet and swear if asked that you supply ALL components, not just the brass. I am quite sure that is the way you have been doing it all along, seeing as how that is what will keep everyone out of trouble. Would suck if an honest guy or two got in a bind for not knowing the full detail of a law that really does not make much sense.

I reload thousands of rounds for my buddy, but he supplies the components and I do not charge him.

Start reloading. I can assemble 1000 rounds of .45 ACP for $70, and it only takes about two and a half hours of my time to do it. Give up one 30 minute TV show a day and the time is there. Do the math, buy a case mail-order for $200 or make a case for $70. You could save $650 within 5000 rounds. That will pay for a Dillon RL550B or Hornady Lock-N-Load press and other needed goodies. Cheapest practice ammo to be found.
