What is the legal response? Can you defend your home or property?

I like the idea of turning on the sprinklers and if you really wanted to you can buy pepper spray devices that would be able to clear everyone of your lawn though Im sure that there would be charges that could be brought for releasing a lot of pepper spray in such a manner. IIRC the son at home locked himself in a bathroom for safety though I would make sure that I could defend myself if they broke into the house and tried to harm me

I do like the sprinkler idea.

Or invite a bunch of Harley-Davidson enthusiasts over for a little soirée. Preferably burly ones with lots of tattoos.
