What is this? Will it change the way I prep/load my case?

Hi all, just so you know this is probably my 5th rookie/newbie thread (and you'll probably see alot more..lol). SO after breaking my first decapping pin, spindle rod and pin nut last night in my RCBS .308 die and learning what a berdan primed case is the hard way, I have another question - I went to the range today and picked up some freshly shot 30-06 brass. When I got it home, I cleaned it, de-primed/re-sized it and began using my prep station to get it ready for trim and the next steps. When I began to look close at the cartridge, I noticed what appeared to be a crimp/stamp (dotted line) around the neck. I looked all over here and the net...but when I typed in crimp, all I got was crimping primers and removing primer crimps. What is this? What kind of brass is this (is it good?) and does this affect my reloading? It went through my press fine and appears to be resized correctly. After last nights mishap, I just wanted to make sure it okay to proceed.

Mr Nasty -
That's nothing but a neck crimp of the style some manufacturers use. In my experience, a lot of it will get removed in the trimming step. Watch out for "hanging chad" that may stick into your fingers after the initial trim, but before chamfering. That's the worst part of it.

Okay, thanks fellas. I just thought somewhere along the line about different prep for a case that it crimped...but maybe I misunderstood it for primer crimping. Thanks. Oh, any idea who the brass originates from?

Yea you have to be specific. Your primers are not crimped, but the bullet was.

Unless you note bullet movement, don't buy the bullet crimping die. Just go with the correct neck sizing and let the neck tension hold it.

You'll see it disappear shortly.
