Hello everyone.

I wondering what type (mark I or II ) of hi power i have. It is of Browning/ FN manufacture and I believe the assembly date is 1986 (PT in the serial # which according to the Browning Website is in refrence to 1986), the "bushing" on the front of the slide is recessed towards the barrel unlike the mark III's flush fit, It does not have the internal fireing pin safety. I think it might be a Mark II but it does not have the ribb on top of the slide. According to Mr. Camps website, Mark IIs were produced in 1982, before the make of my pistol. Im all confused. Thanks.

Hello. FN's dates of introduction for new models is more of a casual suggestion than a hard and fast rule. It sounds like you have a classic type Hi Power. (There is no "Mk I".) All of the Mk II pistols have the rib and all that I've seen came with extended ambidextrous thumb safety levers and a spur hammer. If your pistol has fixed sights, the front is probably the smaller semicular-shaped staked version and is not dovetailed as are the Mk III pistols. On the Mk II, the front sight was integral to the rib. I suspect that your classic has the smallish, single-side thumb safety, but it is possible that FN stuck the extended ambi's on it; I have seen one of those. During the '86 time-frame indicated in your post, the Mk II pistols had been in production for a few years but FN has been known to use the parts that they have on hand in producing Hi Power pistols and some variations do exist.

What would really help would be a picture of your pistol.

Best.

I appreciate your reply Mr. Camp.

It seems you have hit the nail on the head and my hi power does indeed have the features you describe. It seems kind of funny to me that the changeover from type to type is so inconsistent. O well, I'll enjoy it reguardless of what type it is.

...now to deal with that mag disconnect.......
