I'm kind of curious too. Once I started reloading I started shooting lots more. All I've really used are sand bags of various sizes. That's mostly good enough for me and what I do. Recently I've started thinking if I had something to shoot off of that would be the same every time it would eliminate one variable.
I have a sock full of kitty-litter that I use under the toe of the rifle stock,,,
This set-up works very well for my rimfire rifles,,,
It's probably too light for most centerfires.
My rest and bench are built on the cheap. Bench is a used counter top placed on top of cinder blocks. The rest is a car jack with a wider base and top added. The bag is created with a t shirt and corn sewed up. It is far from top of the line, but it works for what I use it for.
I'm in the middle of getting mine together now. I'm using a bald eagle cast base, shadetree top, protektor silver slick top and rear bags, and fclass levelers with the feet.
I use a daypack on the bench for forearm support and cheek weld. Prone I use nothing. My hunting shots are usually standing or kneeling. Sometimes a tree to lean on. I like to know what I can reliably hit in real world conditions.
