I picked up a Kimber Team Match II and in the manual it said to lube the slide and all wear areas with an oil like FP-10. I would always use a tiny bit of action grease on the slide grooves to minimize wear.

What do you use on your 1911 to lube the slide?

FP10 is good stuff.
Wilsons UltimaLube is good as well.

I make my own lubes now to exactly what I've seen work.

Thick. For a 1911's frame guts, slide, and outside the barrel: Mix ATF, STP, and Lucas Red and Tacky bearing grease evenly. Brush on with a little model paint brush, NOT a q-tip.

Thin. For things like firing pins that need lubed, or small parts that don't have alot of force on them the way the slide and barrel lugs do: Mix ATF, STP, and 5w30.

I use oil. Been using FP-10, and have Weaponshield to start using when I empty the bottle of FP-10.

You could probably use a thin grease if you wanted to, but oil works well.

I've switched to Weapon Shield oil and grease. Slick, non-toxic (at least the oil), and smells like cinnamon!

On the rails I use straight grease if it's warmish, oil and grease if it's cold enough to slow the slide down too much, and straight oil if it's frigid.

Hey, it's New England, we get seasonal temp swings of 100+ degrees.

I have about 2000 rounds through my 1911 Metro Arms and all it has ever seen is Breakfree CLP(it has Teflon PTFE). Have had several compliments on it's smooth action from fellow shooters LEs, Border Patrol, and guys who just want to look at the Metro Arms. Had two LEs with their personal Kimbers tell me they were going to purchase a Metro Arms American Classic ll for their next 1911 after shooting mine. (Grin)

My local gun range owner is a friend of mine and has guns of various types plus your normal rental guns of various calibers both semi and auto. They get rented and get a few squirts of CLP if they are lucky a couple of times a month.

We all want to protect our weapons and provide a good lube for them. I am totally sold on using the Breakfree CLP because the weapons I have seen abused that use the CLP just keep on running with no rust or problems. Are there better point specific products available, probably, but for an all around jack of all trades to include the price and application the CLP is hard to beat.

Just use some light weight mobil 1 synthetic, it works good on all firearms. No need for fancy oils, hi priced in little bottles.

I use Militec-1 for the first 1000 rds or first 4-5 cleanings, then go with Break-Free LP; I do this will all of my guns though............

Thanks for all the ideas, I may try a few. I also have a free sample of Weapon Shield coming to try out.

As someone who tries all the latest, "gotta have", lubes (Militec, Weapon Shield, Slip 2000 EWP, Tetra, etc), I have to admit none seem any better than any other. Next super duper lube to come out, I'm sure I'll race out and get it too, only to again realize whatever is most convenient works just fine.

I like Slip 2000 a lot, but always come back to FP-10.

Slide Glide works great too.

i've used tetra gun oil for along time allways served my 1911 well found some slip2000 on sale the outher day so i guess i'll give it a try

"Slide-Slick" will be available soon. It will produce a noticeable change in the way the slide feels on the frame. It will work from sub-zero to very hot climates.

Shooters Choice All Weather High Tech grease on all of my center fire autos.
