I need some suggestions for OAL to use for 158 grain X-Treme brand plated semi wadcutters in 38 special. I'll be shooting a S&W 686 with 5 inch barrel. Mostly plinking and punching paper and I'd like it to be reasonably accurate. I'm thinking of around 3.5 grains of Bullseye powder. I'm thinking [from what I've read using the search function] that OAL won't be especially critical with relatively light loads but the load manuals seem to be all over when it comes to OAL and I find nothing specific to X-Treme plated. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Do they have a crimp cannulure?
If they do, that is the correct OAL.

If they don't?
Leave about 1/16" to 3/32" of the front driving band shoulder sticking out.
That is the correct OAL.

Thanks. I was hoping you would reply. I don't know if they have a cannelure--they aren't here yet. I appreciate your response.

They do have a crimp cannulure. I have 2000 setting on my bench right now ready to be loaded for my wife.

I load that X-Treme 158 Gr SWC bullet to 1.440 in .38 Spl. That is seated to where the case mouth is in the middle of the "cannelure", if you want to call it that. It is marks on the plating, but has no depth for a proper roll crimp. I taper crimp them, anywhere from light to heavy. They shot well at that OAL, so after very little experimenting with OAL, I just continue to load them there. That bullet shoots well in .38 S&W too.
