I have a Hornaday LNL progressive and will be reloading for .223/.308 and .45. Most all of the powders that people use for accuracy seem not to be ball powders, although ball powders seem to be what works well in progressive's. Have any of you tried useing anything other than ball powder and how did it turn out? I was thinking there might be to much variance between each round and the powder might not be consistant enough, any help at all would be much appricated thanks.

I use a Hornady powder measure on a press of a different brand. Yep, the ball powders sure do flow better than extruded! I've gotten great results in .223 with H335 (ball), AA2200 (ball). I use AA ball powders for handgun ammo. I've also used AA4064 (short extruded); H380 (probably ball, but I don't remember for sure); AA2520. I really haven't had any problems metering any of the named powders. Obviously, if you're using extruded powders, the shorter the sticks, the better, as far as metering is concerned.

The Power Pistol I use when loading 40 S&W meters very well in my LNL AP powder measure. The Unique I used before the PP did not measure well.
