ok so you guys talked me out of a bsa sweet 17
i have a marlin 917 vsf and want to shoot between 50 and 200yrds, i like the features that the sweet 17 has i would like a 6-18 power or close to thati dont want to spend more than $150 this will be for target only as i dont hunt with it

I would look at a Nikon, a Pentax, or a Bushnell 3200, Also a Tasco varmint series. I have three of the Tasco's. Lastly and maybe best, if you have any gunshows in your area, go there, and look for old Japanese made Tasco hi power glass; it will say on the metal, made in Japan, it will be hi gloss on the tube, and it will have on it, proly a little paper stamp on it that says 'Japanese govt. approved' , or something like that. Old japanese glass is outstanding. One of these that I have , has a range finder built into the eyebell piece, to site in the size of targets such as specific animals, and then tells you how far away they are. Another one that i got, has 5 replacement discs, for elevation, a 22lr disc, a 223 type disc, a 308 type disc, a 338 type disc, and a wetherby mag type disc. that way, you can have one scope , and it will hold multiple zero's, just by replacing the elevation disc. and once you zero one of your cartridges at the 100 yds mark on the disc, it shows you exactly where to turn to get to 200 300 400 and 500 yds, on each of those discs. I got this one, in the box, never mounted, for 100 bucks!!!! schwing.

I have a CZ452 American in 17HMR that I have scoped with a Swift 4-12 AO. It does the job, and I haven't had any problems with it, but the gun is so good and so accurate it really deserves a top of the line scope.

I prefer Leupold scopes to everything else, but I don't prefer paying for them.

If you've let the scope snobs scare you away from one of the best inexpensive scopes made specifically for your rifle, go ahead. My cousin, my shooting buddy and I have between us sweet .17, .22, 22/250 and .243 scopes, and all work great. In fact, I'm going to purchase a sweet 30/06 next.

I'm with Clipper,I have two Sweet 22 scopes on a 10/22 and Savage 93
22WMR, and a Sweet 223 on my RRA AR15,and they work great and have decent glass for what they are. It's not a top notch scope but neither are most of the ones others talk about. There isn't a scope out there that someone hasn't had bad luck with thats why we have so many companies that make them and all say theirs is better than someone elses.:banghead:
