What should I pay for this luger

Looks more or less correct for a mid-war gun with some shortcuts in machining, finish, and polishing, but it should be a good shooter.

Locally, I would expect that to have between $750 and $900 on the sticker. I would offer and pay $800 if it were me.

I have a 1917 vintage Luger and it is a hoot! Everybody should have one at some point.

I had resisted purchasing a Luger for years.. Because where do you begin?? The area of lugers is unreal and I know one can not own all the variations you should.. But gosh, you have to start somewhere..

SO I have been doing some hands on learning.. Other people's hands, my learning.. to learn what to look for... I like going to the moving picture shows so these have helped me a bit.. There is so much to learn and be afraid of that it can take some time.. and these youtubes are not even a half assed beginning.

Knowing & trusting your seller is important for the beginner (even then mistakes are made).. Per these youtubes, I picked them for the information they shared not necessarily the attitudes of the presenters.

Unfortunately it's a sellers market these days. Five years ago I'd have paid $600 max for that gum. Right now anywhere between $600 and $1000 could be asked for it. Somehow our currency is not worth as much these days/

Thanks for the question. It looks to be matching except for the magazine. And I couldn't find a picture of the rear toggle marks, but based on the photos you've provided, if you were to buy this luger from Simpson, the largest dealer in lugers, you would pay a minimum of $1595 (https://simpsonltd.com/mauser-p-08-42-1940-z40152/) and a much as $2495 depending on details of condition. To get a better idea of current going rates, you might want to visit Simpson's website. Best of luck and let us know what you decide. Thanks again.

I've been looking for a Luger as a shooter. Here locally in metro Detroit, they are getting $750+ for a non-matching shooter in sound mechanical condition. One like what you are looking at would fetch an easy $1000, maybe as much as $1200.

That's in great shape for a Mauser made 1940 gun. It's worth at least a grand, matching magazine would tip the original e but I agree, Simpson might charge double that price.
