I've seen a few Houston police officers carry a revolver as a duty sidearm and saw today a couple of policewomen carrying what looked to be 686's.

Everyone has talked about the demise of the revolver as a police sidearm, but are there any other Police dept's you know about that seem to allow widespread use/choice of these?

That's interesting. I've also seen a female officer in my local PD that carried a revolver. Appeared to be a stainless S&W with Hogue rubber monogrips.

Couldn't tell for sure what model, but it didn't look like a 686. Probably a .38 Special K-frame. It also didn't appear to have a 4" barrel. Probably 2.5" or 3". She was uniformed, on patrol.

Still see a few wheelguns carried by Philadelphia police and recently there was a newspaper article about the approximately 2,000 New York police still carrying revolvers.

I've seen a few officers in different parts of the states carrying wheelguns on their belts. I carry a J-frame snubbie for my my backup and occassionally I've been known to put my SP101 on my belt as my primary. I have to admit that those are the days that I will be running a range or sitting in a classroom attending training, but I will wear it. It never fails to get a reaction out of somebody.

Rob - we're only allowed revolvers if we started before '90, and most of the old-timers switched to semiautos.

Seems that Seargents are the only ones carrying wheelguns. Two of mine carry S&W's.

Oh way to go. Why don't you just stand up and scream FLAME WAR at the top of your lungs?

Jealousy is such a twisted ugly thing!
