Like, to an actual range with a nice bench and everything. And even then you have tiers of 'nice.' My go-to place is more of a sand pit than a shooting range.
Where can I find a beat up Mini-14 Wood Stock? Plus general Mini chatter.

why did they quit making the mini 30 with wood stocks? all they have now is plastic. still might get one but if they were wood I would get one in a heartbeat.
I know the mini 14 ranch is available in wood but I don't think I could settle for 223/556 over the 7.62x39
drives me nuts that everything is going to plastic only with no wood option

Cheaper? Demand? Who knows. There are Mini-30 stocks on eBay and such. I'm putting one there myself.
Unfortunately, you'd be hard pressed to get a Mini-30 anytime soon. You can't order from Ruger, you can't order from any gun dealers. There's a few you can get at auction, but the online prices I've seen were absurd.
I too was looking for a Mini-30, since last December. Just like you, I didn't really want a composite stock, so I actually bought a wood stock for a Mini-30 in anticipation. After months of trying to get one I just decided to go for the Mini-14 instead, haven't regretted it one bit. Unless you really hate 5.56, I'd take a second look, it's a great gun.
Seems almost impossible to get about any decent new gun right now. I have been waiting 6 months already to get a new marlin XT-22MTW and was told today by the gun shop it would be another 6-8 months before they are available. I will just wait it out since that is the specific gun I want. once I get that my sights will be set on a ruger mini30 or mini14. Its an expensive gun and cant get exactly what I want now so I will have plenty of time to think about it. I just don't understand why the gun makers wont offer us what we really want
