Ok, here's how it is. I've got a lovely pair of Model 66's; a 2.5" 66-2, and a 4" 66-1. I shoot the heck out of both of them, but when doing faster shooting, I seem to perform much better with the smooth trigger that my 2.5" has, rather than the grooved trigger on the 4".

Now I've looked around and tried to find a replacement smooth trigger for the 4" to no avail. I'm not sure of the width on the 2.5" smooth trigger, but I would guess somewhere around .30-.32. I haven't pulled it out yet to mic it.

So where can I find one of these babies? Anyone here have one lying around that they'd like to part with?

I've never swapped a trigger in a S&W revolver, but I have no doubt that I can do it. I just need the darned new trigger first!

Thanks for any help (and any pointers for the actual trigger swap)!

If nobody has a spare, you can get one from Brownells.
What I have done for mine is to reform the trigger myself. Take care to keep the heat down, and of course take the trigger out to re-form it.
FYI – the triggers for the older guns are different than the newer ones (MIM).

I bought a used excellent one from a guy on smith-wessonforum for under $20.

I went the other way, my gun had smooth and I got a grooved one.

Where are you? send a PM if you want. (I just looked, you're in OH)

Be aware that while sometimes a trigger will just drop in and work fine sometimes they don't and will need fitted by a competent revolver smith.

Dremel would be my bet, but I like to work on a replacement instead of the original. This way if you mess up, you still have one to throw back in. And you still have the original part if you suddenly realize that you have a collector's item. At least that's what I've done on various pieces in the past.

Guess I wasn't very specific in my last post, but, I have a smooth stainless trigger I'd trade for a grooved one, if you don't buy one outright somewhere.

K, L, and N triggers are interchangable. Other internals are model specific, but triggers interchange.

Malamute,

Thanks for the offer, but I would want to hang on to the original trigger. This 66-1 is in really nice shape, and I want to be able to switch it back to all original if I want to.

Maybe I'll have to order the one from Numrich.

Thanks for the help!

Try the smith-wessonforum. There are several guys tatb have parts regularly. I got mine from a guy named lelandray. Very nice guy to do business with. And as I mentioned, mine cost under $20. Might be worth a try anyway.
