I want to assemble an AR-15 and was wondering if there was a website that you guys would recommend that has fair prices. I'd like to keep it under $1000 if possible.

Palmetto State Armory
Aim Surplus
Bravo Co (BCM)
Citizen Armory
DSG Arms
Primary Arms
MidwayUSA
Brownells

EDIT: I have bought from all of the above. I prefer the first 6 stores. Midway and Brownells are ok for small parts. Midway can have some nice sales. Midway always has some coupon codes.

You get a discount at Brownells and Midway on some items if you have your C&R license. I've saved quite a bit of money going that route.

I echo G&R tactical. Great service and good parts.

Spikes Tactical

or direct from manufacturer depending on part.

I've used bravo, brownell's, gunkings, midway and a few others. Bravo is my favorite.

I built one of mine for a shade under 600. Aero precision lower and a kit from m&a parts. Great Rifle!

Although I have built a rifle using parts scored from Midway, they don't that great of a selection (seems like lots of what they carry isn't in stock --God help you if you have a problem and you NEED the parts. Stay away from their AR-Stoner brand --they sent me UTG airsoft junk three times in a row --burned their bridge with me over that ordeal). Brownell's does have a good selection, but they are expensive.

You might also look into Rainier Arms. They are a local company for me, pretty much what I like to use now. They specialize in AR's, they don't really do much else, and no pistols or pistol parts. Just rifles, just AR's I think. They also claim they wouldn't sell what they wouldn't use; I can say they don't have much of a junk selection.

They have lots of quality parts for a good price. They'll also assemble what you want, and work it out with you over the phone. Very flexible, great folks. One stop AR shopping.

You should definitely check them out.

I like my Del-Ton. I am by no means an AR expert though. I put mine together from a mid-length parts kit from there and a LRB stripped lower from a local dealer. I am well under your $1000 limit with a 1:7 chrome lined heavy barrel, a couple Magpul Pmags, a Mbus rear sight and an armorer's tool.

Delton is a good choice, they get their barrels from wilson. I think aero makes their lowers but not certain. Can be difficult sometimes ordering, seems like they have more work than staff can handle. prices are good and rifles do fine

I'm currently checking out Del-Ton. Awesome reviews and great prices! Palmetto also has the stock I want for a great deal. I'm trying to hold off until around Christmas so I can justify another purchase of a gun to myself. Does Del-Ton normally have holiday sales? Also, I found this on their site: http://www.del-ton.com/M_16_Bolt_and_Carrier_p/bc1046.htm Would I legally be able to put this in my AR or would I only be able to have one build stricly for AR's? Thanks guys!

Also, if I got a kit from Del-Ton with a completed upper, are the lowers easy to assemble? Any specific tools I would need?

yes they are easy to assemble. the roll pins are the hardest part, because roll pins are evil creatures from hell. The only specific tool i can think of is a wrench for the castle nut on the stock/buffer tube, I did fine with tape on some vice grips and blue thread locker just to be sure.

Several good recommendations on dealers. One thing I didn't see mentioned is that you will save the 11% excise tax if you buy your stripped lower and other parts separately.

you can use the m16 carrier, I like it better because it's heavier and keeps the bolt locked-up in the lugs a little longer. You can NOT have m16 lower parts combined with the m16 carrier for obvious reasons, but the m16 carrier alone is a good thing

Quantico tactical has some pretty good deals and on checkout put "ar15com" for discount code of 15%. They are slow to get info to you and the last order was put on backorder without notice but for the discount I got, I wasn't too upset with the extra wait. I would order from them again.

One thing you might want to consider if ordering from Del-Ton is that they get backed up around peak ordering times, i.e. tax returns, presidential elections, Christmas, etc... You might want to order early to have it by the Christmas holiday. I don't know about any sales but they are very friendly and you could ask them about any deals. When calling press the number to get sales to talk to an actual person and not have to leave a message. Assembling an AR is very simple. I think my 10 year old daughter could do it. I followed a video off of Youtube and had no problems. A cheap stock wrench and Vice Grips with the jaws wrapped in tape is all you really need. I did my assembly in my tiled bathroom with the drains closed, toilet lid down and everything moved out. Those little springs can be hell to find out in an open area if one gets away from you.
