I have a YHM flat top upper with M4 ramps and need to find a 20 inch barrel with M4 ramps that will match up with it. Any ideas??? Del-Ton's barrel kits don't have M4 ramps.

My 20" upper from CMMG has the longer ramps. If you can get them to sell you just the barrel, I'd go that route; you'll get a higher quality part than you will from Delton or Model 1.

+1 for CMMG. They make great barrels and my 20" came with feedramps as an option.

CMMG will have what you're looking for. However, they aren't cheap!

I have a BCM, but they are very difficult to get as Bravo does limited runs and not very often. Doesn't hurt to check.

Finally, there's the AR15barrels.com guy. The most expensive option, but you can get anything.

AR15barrels.com has been having some delivery issues:

CMMG has been having some quality problems lately:

I was very close to ordering a 20" Gov't Upper from CMMG and the recent quality problems made me go with Bushmaster.

Kind of a bummer since CMMG has had a great reputation up until the past few months and I'd rather support them than Bushmaster.

I wasn't aware of any bad trend with CMMG... however, the first 20" upper they sent me did have accuracy issues and, I think, excessive headspace. I sent it back; they sent me an entire new one, no problems. Given their rep, I just chalked it up to the occassional bad one always making it out the door.

Sorry for the hijack. What exactly are M4 feedramps? Do they machine the barrel extension differently or something?

Strat81,

What are the issues with CMMG? I have been thinking about ordering a second upper from them. My 18 inch upper is pretty nice and it has saved me a some money because every time I think of ordering either a 16 or 20 inch upper I decide that two inches either way is not worth it, but I really want to build either a 16 incher with a short fixed stock or a flat top 20.

I am not sure how much stock to put into complaints about any particular company. Recently it seems Bushmaster and CMMG have been the ones to complain about over on ar15.com. Part of me thinks it some kind of hive mentality when certain companies are ridiculed on the internet. From time to time you see a rash of complaints about particular companies, but I am not sure how much of this is real or blown out of proportion. My personal experience with CMMG was that I had two minor problems with my order and they fixed both for me in a timely fashion. Would I buy from CMMG, given the complaints about them? Absolutely.

I was just curious, I don't really put a lot of stock into internet complaints without doing some research myself.

I had heard a lot of good things about CMMG and decided to order a midlength upper. After several attempts to get past their answering service I decided to go with a different and more expensive company. If they ever ditch the answering service I will give them another shot.

That's kinda why I like Model1. You call they answer and you can ask questions to a real live person that knows what they are talking about. :) Plus my 6.8 upper was from them and was a very nice shooter.

strat81,

Thanks for the links and no, I wouldn't do all of my research on the internet. I don't doubt that CMMG has sent out some products that a QC inspector should have caught or that their customer service needs improvement, but, I would be curious to see how many satisfied customers they have had over the last year. Part of the problem with the internet is you mostly only hear from the dissatisfied people and there might be a large number of satisfied customers out there (like me, for example).

Lucky for me I just blew the cost of a new AR on ultra light backpacking equipment and I wont be ordering a new rifle soon ;)

Mostly, but not always. In the context of AR-15s, I have yet to hear a bad thing about Noveske... only positive. As for LMT, I have heard only good things about their rifles and a small number of complaints about customer service and sales practices. I've only heard positive things about BravoCo uppers and J&T/Doublestar guns too.

I agree that CMMG makes good stuff. I'd wager that since the black rifle craze is running strong, they are experiencing some growing pains. Not enough employees, inexperienced employees, new suppliers, suspect suppliers... all of those things often combine into the problems others have mentioned with their recent CMMGs. A year ago you probably never would have seen those posts, they all seem to be from 2008 rifles/uppers.

And trust me, I know about owning a product that gets slammed for quality: I'm a happy WASR owner. LOL :)

I'm piecing together a 20" rifle right now too. My issue wasn't finding M feed ramps, it was finding a gov't profile barrel. Most of the 20" barrels are HBARs which I do not want.

You can get a Government profile chrome lined barrel from Bushmaster in 1-9 or 1-7 twist.
It does not come with the taller F marked front sight but so what if you choose an upper that is configured to Weaver dimensions such as Evolution Gun Works upper, or you can install a tall carbine front sight.
Bushmaster will exchange the standard front sight post for a tall post if you let them know what you are doing with the barrel.

M4 feed ramps are a good thing.
Match rifles are being built with the M4 feed ramp modification now because the clearance reduces the possibility of bullet distortion when using bullets heavier than 62 grains.

M4 feed ramps are not standard on the EGW upper or the Bushmaster barrel extension, but any good gunsmith can cut the ramps to this dimension if desired.

I have three CMMG uppers bought late last fall; all with lightweight 1:7" barrels with M4 cuts and F-marked (and measured) FSBs.

They are simply The Bees Knees. :D
