Where to find nagants

Can anyone advise me to where you can find mosin nagants for just the occaisonal shoot at the range or so. I live in Pittsburgh and the only place that sell used rifles are places like Gander Mountain, Cabelas (down in WV), Dicks, Etc.

Also which model do you think would fit me? I know theres different kinds such as the 91/30. I like bolt actions a lot. I also don't want to pay more than say $200 for one either. I mainly want a mosin because ammo is fairly cheap and im not looking for pin point accuracy, plus i sort of like russian guns.

Thanks for any input.
 
Stay away from a Mosin-Nagant

I will advise you to never purchase your 'FIRST' Mosin. :confused: It is a fever. :what: 'hehehe' :evil: 'hehehe' :banghead: You will purchase another, I promise. STAY AWAY, = 'just more for me' HA :D
 
AIM, J&G, Classic Arms, SOG, Centerfire...

Just fidn one and have it shipped to your FFL for a small fee.

(OR, get a C&R and have your first transfer fee almost cover the $30 lisense fee and have guns delivered to your house!)
 
I picked up a 91/30 and a M44 for $155 for both. That was at Dunham's Sports in Indiana or Michigan. Dicks around here has the 91/30 for $149 and the M44 for $129. I myself like the 91/30 better of the two.

don't forget omega's 35$ mosin nagants. real good shooters (it'll kill man dog or beast dead at 100 yards, without much of a problem... think of it as minute of BG) that will penetrate dang near any cover short of an engine block. and with value certainly to skyrocket, too.
 
GAnder Mtn and Dunhams both have nice m44s for under 100.00, got mine today at Dunhams, father's day present.
Beautiful, can't wait to shoot it.....

Only stupid question is one that you don't ask.
c&R means curio and relic, which means that you can buy certain guns via the mail and possess certain transferrrable full autos with this license, (the FEW FAs that are listed are THOUSANDS of dollars, though, some thompsons, M16s, Ar18s, M76s , grease guns, etc.), and guns over a certain age or ones listed as 'curios"
The atf.gov website has a complete listing of these.
 
Ohio Rapid Fire in Troy, Ohio has M-44's for $69.95 and many different types of 91/30's for $79.95 - $89.95. I bought my M-44 there. It was refurbished but had original matching numbers. Some M-44's didn't have matching numbers, so I guess that's the advantage of buying in person.

the gunshows down here in Houston right now, are selling them for 100 bucks, 91/30-'s, 44's, and 38's. Gander mountain sells one for 150 right now, that has been refinished, with a great cammo job done to the stock, they generally appear to be unishued, all numbers match type as well. I wouldn't hesitate to get one of those.
if the gander mntn in your area doesn't have one of these cammo jobs, ask if they will send you one to you, up from Houston.
 
If you are willing to take a little trip, we are having a gunshow in Akron this weekend coming up (23+24) it's only really about 1 1/2 hours from Pittsburg to Akron so not that far away.

You can get Mosins all day long for $75-100 at shows, and you get to inspect them for qaulity.
 
Alright so guns shows and sporting goods stores are the way to go. I haven't looked at gander mountain and dicks for ahwile so maybe they have had some come in. Good thing is that they won't put a big hole in my wallet.

Another thing. Is there a lot of kick to these things? I figured there would be because they have often been compared to 30-06 plus 7.62 x54 sounds pretty big.

That is patently not true. The question he asked wasn't stupid in the least, but there are tons and tons of really stupid questions floating around out there just waiting to be asked by some idiot brave enough to ask them.

Real life example:

I am a 6'2, 400 pound man. It is obvious to anyone that sees me that I am all man, all the time. However, at a large job fair, I recently asked a very nice lady where the restroom was. She looked at me and said "Restroom for man?". Given the environment we were in at the time, that was a stupid question!:)
 
you need to buy the small size , butler creek , slip on pad for this rifle, it kicks like an 8mm steyr, and that is as stout as a milsurp rifle gets. Also , If i rr, the ones from Gander mtn , also have a recoil pad adde on to them.
 
The local Gander Mountain, sells M-44's for about $139.00, and they are in darn near new condition. While that's high compared to purchasing online with a C&R, it's not a bad price if you have to add shipping and FFL fees to the online price.

The local gun shows are usually cheaper, but the guns are in a LOT rougher shape. I'm tempted to buy one from Gander or another local shop, just because they're so nice looking, but I've already got two of the $35.00 ones from Omega.
 
I got my M44 at a gun show for $91 including taxes. Matching numbers and darn good condition. I like the M44 because it's shorter and easier to carry to and from the range than say, the 91/30. But really, get any old Mosin. You won't regret it. And, a C&R license is a good thing. Once I turn 21, I might get mine.
 
Now what parts of the rifle should i really focus on inspecting considering almost all of them have been used? As i have read some people have gotten lemons in terms of accuracy so i suppose i should take a look at the bore.
