Can anyone direct me to dealers or websites that specialize in Contender carbine barrels? Especially Super 16 barrels. Especially lightweight barrels in .22LR, .22WMRF, and .22 Hornet.

I didn't see much in the WTS forum here, so hoping someone can help out.

Thanks for your help.

PS Email is probably the best way to reach me.

You might try Ed's Contenders - he carrys a lot of different barrels. Although I just looked and his carbine barrel selection is pretty slim at the moment. Midway has a big selection on thier website but some of the barrels are special order. Not sure if the Super 16s are still listed.

Since you're in the DFW area, go to the Market Hall gun show Sept 23-24. There is a T/C dealer in Grand Prairie that has a large inventory of all the Contender and Encore frames, barrels, and stocks. I can't remember his name (his first name is Wayne), but he is always at the Market Hall show.

Ed's was the one place that had 16 inch barrels. The only problem is that the .22 long rifle barrel is labeled "Match" which I think means it is a heavy barrel without iron sights. The .22 mag barrel is labeled as a bull barrel. I will get in touch with them to see if they have anything lighter.

Hoghunting, I was hoping someone could tell me the name of that guy that always has the T/C stuff at the DFW shows. I'm probably looking for used barrels because I don't think T/C makes 16 inch barrels these days and I don't want to spend $350+ on a custom one.

What I'm looking for is a 16 or 16.5 inch light, skinny barrel with iron sights (preferably drilled and tapped so I can change the rear out to an aperture). .22 long rifle would be perfect. I'm not even sure that T/C ever made a barrel like this, but if so, I want one!!!!

Thanks for all the help.

Welcome to THR Bitmap.

The "match" 22 barrel is not a bull barrel. It has a match chamber but the contor is the same as any other. I have one and am quite pleased with it. The best it has done was .25 inches for a five shot group at 50 yards. For a light weight carry around rifle that suits me.

So Griz, any idea if the 16 inch match .22 come with iron sights, or at least D&T for iron sights?

Is it light enough to make a good youth gun?

Thanks for the info.

Sorry, it looks as if I have mislead you. The one I have is from TC, not Ed's, and is an old model at that. So I have no experience with the one you are looking at. The one I have is longer, 21 inches I think, and I believe it has iron sights. With the synthetic stock (full size, not youth) it weighs about five pounds without the scope, so I think it would work for a youth rifle.

Here is Thompson Center's new G-2 with apparently 23 inch barrels. They claim 5.4 pounds with a wood stock.

I'm hoping to find something that really young shooters i.e. 5-6 year olds can handle, without having to pay for a custom barrel. The one you've got seems like it might be close. I wish T/C would've made a 16 inch version of the octogan barrel in .22!!!

I'll have to take the kiddos along to a shop or show where they have barrels and receivers and let them try out some of these barrels.

Thanks for the info. Any other input would be appreciated.
