I already own a Springfield 1911A1 Loaded and a Kimber Compact Carry. I would really like to find a Commander size or smaller 1911 style pistol that shoots 9mm ammo.

I know, I know, I know... to alot of you out there, the idea is anathema--9mm ammo out of a 1911. Having said that, I think it would make a great little gun.

I believe Springfield makes their ultra compact available as a 9mm. Are there any others out there that you're aware of? I'm not really interested in a 38 super. I don't reload, so the cost and availability of the ammo sort of rules that out.

I'd really like to find a Commander size, but... I'm open to about anything.

Thanks in advance for your serious responses.

The expected "forty-five-or-die" responses, however...well, I guess you've gotta do what you've gotta do.

STI makes the small LS in 9mm.
They also have a BLS, and make some of their other guns in 9mm.

Springfield Armory made a few of various guns in 9x19. Kimber never really did. Colt made alot of 9x19 1911s of various sorts... if you hunt around you can find them, mostly Commanders.

Springfield, Dan Wesson, STI, SVI, Les Baer, Ed Brown, Nowlin, Briley, various other high-dollar custom outfits.

The Springfield, Dan Wesson, and STI are your only choices under $1000.

Kimber is making a short run of 9mm in the 5", but not the shorter barrel. And by the way, I think that a 1911 in 9mm makes a lot of sense. In a solid steel frame, there is lilttle recoil, and you get that great feel the 1911 offers, and that trigger. I want one too.

The only ones I've seen lately have been from Springfield. The one I have access to is government model that is an absolute shooter!

A friend of mine once had a Colt Combat Commander Special Edition in 9mm (tutone, with the colt medallion grips - beautiful gun!), and he kicks himself for selling it, but at the time he needed the money. If you could find one in decent condition, you are likely to pay significant $$$ to someone actually stupid enough to sell one.

Kimber is offering a limited run of Stainless Targets in 9mm, so maybe that is somthing that you could look at, although, personally, I really wish Kimber made the Pro Carry (preferably an HD) in 9mm.

A 1911 in 9mm is a good target gun with little recoil and cheap ammo if you don't reload. I suspect they are selling more and more of these each year.

I don't think it's an efficient carry gun in 9mm. You can carry lighter and smaller guns with more capacity than the 1911. But, if you like the platform, you can "zip" some good 9mm's out of it and I suspect it will work just fine.

Someone needs to design a smaller version of the 1911 in 9mm for carry and just because!!
I'd bet they couldn't keep them in stock.
