I'm looking to buy a .22 pump. What should I buy? I've currently got my eye on a Henry. Is this a mistake? What other brands are available and which do you recommend?

I have looked at the Taurus and was impressed by the fit and finish, every report I have read says that is a good buy. My brother has a Remington pump action in .22mag that is way fun and I know they made them same in .22LR, can't remember the model number though.

I can't tell you about the others, but I have a Taurus 62 that I bought last summer, and it's a sweet little thang. I got the blued "youth" carbine. It comes with two buttstocks -- a normal (adult) sized one and a shorter youth stock. Both are fitted to the gun, and it's quick and easy to swap them. It has been 100% reliable and plenty accurate for a plinking/gallery gun. It's among my favorite rifles. I think I paid around $220 for it, and that also included a tang sight that I haven't (and won't) mount on it. The barrel-mounted open rear sight works just fine.

Btw, the Taurus 62 is a replica of the old Winchester 62, which is the classic "gallery gun." I have no idea how faithful of a replica it is, though.

I have a Rossi Gallery Rifle that I bought in the late 70's. It is accurate, trouble free, and will feed anything put in it. I believe Tarus or someone bought out
Rossi.

Remington slide action .22s

Remington makes a pump or slide action, the model 572. In the past they were offered in the cheaper adl model as well as the more expensive bdl model. A few years ago, I picked up the adl model for $125.00. There are good bargains out there on Remingtons. Check at gun shows. The bdl model had a high gloss finish on the stock and the receiver was better finished. My adl shoots just as well as the bdl model.

Rupestris;

The .22 pump that you're referring to is almost certainly the Remington model 141A 'gamemaster', a forerunner of the 572A & the 572BDL.

MaterDei;

Although I'm no fan of Remington, I'd have to concur that a used 572A Fieldmaster in good shape would be a fine thing to get ahold of. Used in very good to excellent shape, one should be in the $150.00 to $200.00 range & worth the money. Personally, I'd rather have the A than the BDL. The BDL is flashier & books for more money, but does not offer any operating advantages. The easiest way to immediately tell the two apart is that the BDL has a swept-back ray-gun type front sight, the A is a normal dovetail bead.

I don't know as a Henry would be a mistake, but me, I'd look elsewhere.
