Marlin mod. 336 30-30

I have a Marlin model 336 30-30 for sale and I have seen them listed online from $329.00 up to $399.00 yet I have seen in many forums that they should go for around $250.00.

How come there is such a difference in opinion when everyone agrees that they are an excellent shooting rifle? Are the older ones worth more? Mine is a 1971 and it's in great shape but I don't want to ask too much when I advertise it.

Here I am again with you Just One Shot... the guy never bought the Marlin, but now someone else I know wants it, but I have no idea what to charge for it...

It's a girlfriend and not the wife? Ummmm... I'd be inclined to keep them both and get what you want. My wife doesn't even lay down the law on my firearms purchases. Fortunately They don't interfere with other needs, or obligations and she has her share of goodies around the house. If you have to sell get rid of the Marlin. The Winchester has sentimental value as well as being a proven brush gun. there are certain weapons I just won't part with, pretty much most of them come to think of it. But there are a few that have no family history, or a special place in the cold cockles of my heart and could go in a pinch. :D

Keep the guns and ask for her hand in marriage. She'll forget about the va-ca.Misery loves company LOL:D

Of course, the easiest solution is to get rid of the girlfriend and buy a another rifle in celebration. Unlikely to happen.

I'd keep the Winchester since you have long term memories with it. As for the price of the Marlin, check out gunbrokers.com and gunsamerica.com and see what they're going for.

While I certainly appreciate all of the relationship advice (?), and I am sure it is meant in jest (well, mostly)... The facts are that I bought the Marlin to fill the hole left from the Winchester, but now that I have the Winchester back I just don't need two lever action 30/30's, nor do I really want them both (or else I need to invest in yet another larger safe... lol)....

I told the GF I was going to dip into the vacation fund to pick up my old deer hunting gun in this package deal, and that I would sell one or two of the guns in that deal to repay the vacation fund. She was cool with that and didn't ask for anything. I tend to try to keep my word to people, especially those I love.

She isn't hassling me to get rid of guns..... honor, logic and my sense of self worth just dictate that I do.

I found a friend that really wants a lever gun, so this is all headed in the right direction. We all get what we want, and the girl and I get to keep the money in the vacation fund....

Now I just need to figure out a decent price so that he gets a good deal and I get what the gun is worth.

SITE NEWS: First it was the forums that got spammed with thousands of sick and twisted posts and now it's the classifieds. So they are both offline till I find a solution. Thank yet another POS from eastern europe and parts of asia and russia. We free them from the Nazis and the Communists so they can @#$% on our living room floor. That's the thanks we get. Somehow I think the Arabs won't be any different. At some point we have to start asking ourselves, Why?

I'll find a new classifieds script that's more secure and we'll move forward.

Hmmmmm..... sounds like the board, and the owner, have 'issues'...

Gunsamerica is up and running though.... looks like they run from $700-$350... lol.... now how do I figure out where mine fits in? Is there a way to check on it based on the serial number?

I own both.. I prefer the Marlin in almost every way.. But sentimental value is priceless sometimes.. I would sell my left nut and keep both:D.. Put a scope on the 336 and keep the the other for quick open sight shots

Keep quiet for a while, she'll probably forget about it and find something else to complain about...if she still insists, there are a lot of other fish in the sea...What ever happens, DON'T MARRY HER, things will only get worse, not better...Don't ask how I know.

My opinion, for what's it's worth, keep the Winchester. Winchester's are not made anymore and Marlin's are which means that you always replace the Marlin if you want to.

Love my Marlins and I'm not a Winchester fan (not a hater though) but I say go with the family history.
For example I have a nearly worthless single shot 12 gauge that my wife's grandfather sold to my father for $3 and some scrap steel when they were young men so it's got history on both sides. Out of all my guns guess what's in the never sell group?

She already forgot about it for the most part.... every once in a while she will throw in a "what about that gun you were selling?" type of comment, with a smile.

As noted, I don't really want/need nor can I even really use the gun.....

any more input on a price to go to a friend?

A few years ago I already had a 336, and found an old but good 94 in a pawnshop. I handled it and told the clerk that I really liked it's feel better than the Marlin, but I was not really sure why. He said, "Because John Wayne never said 'Let's break out some Marlins, boys'." I bought it on the spot and have never regretted it.

My wife and I handle the gun thing this way: I don't look in her closet, she doesn't have the combination to the gun safe. So far that is working.
