Which AR-15 magazines are the most reliable? What is their price range?

I am going to get an AR-15 sometime later this year and am trying to plan things out.

Your input is appreciated.

I bought two used GI mags made by Center Industries Corp for 7 dollars each at a gunshow but I have not tried them yet. I am not an AR expert (still waiting on my first parts kit) but from what I read the GI issue mags seem to work fine.

The grey dry film mags, with the green followers. They are made by several manufactures for the Gov. Cheapest price I have ever found is DPMS, they are less than $12 apiece new, and theyship for free. I buy 6 a month. You can also get the same mags from them, but black teflon coated for $1 more. Best deal going.

Option 1: New production USGI magazines. $10/each many places. They are probably the most "sure thing" out there.

Option 2: Magpul Pmags. These are slightly more expensive ($12 to $17), but have the potential to be much more durable and long-lived than USGI mags...I say potential, though, since they're brand new and the only way to really know how well something holds up over time is to test how well it holds up over time. ;)

Get some USGI 30 rounders. Some of the aluminum 20 rounders. Then top it off with a couple of P-mags in the color of your choice.

Depends on the mag capacity you are looking for. I am using cheap military mags in Iraq. Your tax dollars at work. Most common cause of malfunction in M16A2 is magazine issues. If you don't mind 30rds buy the used Israeli Orlite mags. I have never had a failure to feed, the feed lips won't bend if you drop it, and they don't bend nor will they scratch anything.

For the USGI mags, D&H industries is one USGI makers that makes good mags. Make sure wherever you buy from tells you who makes it or shows a picture of the floor plate. Many don't. Otherwise, I am not sure "USGI" really means anything. There are a lot of mags out there and at least in my experience, everything under the sun seems to be USGI.

I have several C-Products mags that work just fine.

If they don't come with them, pick up some Magpul followers. They are pretty good.

I have a couple of P-Mags I have been impressed with also. They functioned well and were very smooth loading.

I don't recall who it was on this board that posted a thread about this deal, but, I want to share this sale with you as it is going on till the end of March...

I bought 6...they are working fine! I will probably stock up on a few more before the month is out.

Great order turn around...and it came with a 900 plus page master catalog....

Being in a banned state, my mags are at least 14 years old. They are USGI except with an updated spring and follower.

I'd love to own a couple of PMAGs though.

I ordered some from CMMG with the stainless anti-tilt follower, nitro-coated. Quite a name so I will see how they work, they look great though.

you know, ckay, there aren't any border guards between states... yet. you're free to move

44.mag generally has good prices. Last month during a sale I picked up D&H 30 round mags for $9/piece, with free shipping for my purchase (it was over $100.) I bought 10 of the 30 round mags, along with a Pelican 1200 case from another source. Pull out the foam, pop in the ten mags, perfect fit.

The majority of my magazines are D&H mags from Bravo Company and they work well and are priced right. I have 6 of the CMMG magazines with stainless followers/braided springs - I'd call them my 'favorite mags' if I had such a thing - but they are much more expensive. I'd like to try the PMags soon - the smoke colored ones look really nice.

Oddly enough, the only magazine I own that gives me any problems is the Bushmaster magazine that came with the gun - the follower does not slide very smoothly. I plan to replace the spring and follower but haven't done so yet.
