My buddy and I are splitting a 5 gallon bucket of brass that we got from a law enforcement shooting range. We are mostly interested in the .40s. I have cleaned all and divided all by head stamp. Here is my question: Which of these are concidered good brass, and should we be worried about any of them?

  • Winchester
  • RP
  • RPC
  • Speer
  • Win NT
  • Federal

Also, what is RPC and Win NT?

all are great. if i were you i would dump the win nt as they have the klean primer (i think!). it can sometimes be larger.

for sure though keep the speer, fed, and win.

I would keep as much of the WIN and RP as you can.
As for the WIN NT I would steer clear of it along with the Speer.
I have no idea what RPC is.
Just my opinion!

The WIN NT uses a different primer

To be more precise, the Win NT uses a small pistol primer, so it's better to segregate them from regular .45 ACP cases that use large pistol primers, which is std for .45 ACP cases. I toss them in the recycle bucket.

I would get rid of the NT brass, some have crimped primer pockets, but thinking thats only in Fed NT cases. 40 S&W only use small primers, so thats not an issue.

Send me all your Win NT brass. I find nothing wrong with them. Beings as how I inspect all my brass it is no problem sorting them out for reloading with small Pistol primers...

I have no idea what RPC is, but all the rest of your brass is good...

I actually use anything not damaged or that looks bad. If it is just for range shooting/plinking go for all the good ones. I have even found PAC and CBC to be good for reloading but I never load to max.

I've used all these except RPC and Win NT, and have never had a problem with any of them that wasn't my fault. Got a pile of S&B .45 ACP from a friend, and they seem to be good too. Never had a problem with Speer or CCI or even some old Canadian military 9 mm that someone gave me many years ago.

If it's clean or cleanable and not badly bent use it.

What a retard, It is pmc. Seems like my mind wanted it to be something else. Thanks for the link and the clarification.

I believe that the Win NT stands for Winchester Non Toxic load and the ones that I have are in .45acp and use a small pistol primer, but they load and shoot just fine. I also have some Federal NT which I also believe stands for non toxic, they too use small pistol primers and work just fine. The ones that I have came from a LE indoor range. I just separate them and shoot them. Like The Bushmastersaid, if you don't want them send them to me!! Take care.

I only keep the win that has not been glocked. the reason for the win, is I started out shooting win white box, and have so far collected about 1000 from friends and range pick up, every thing else I save for trading.

I have reloaded Winchester, Speer, Federal and Remington brass and all will reload fine. (I like Fed and Win best)

I don't know anything about RPC or Win NT brass so I can't comment on those 2.

I'm saving the Win NT .45's that I find separately. When I get enough, I'll load 'em up and carry 'em in my Jeep for target shooting in places where recovering my brass isn't an option.
