Well, eventually I'd like to get myself one of above mentioned subguns. For style's sake, I wanna get something from around the middle of the 20th century, not the very end. ;) And yeah, I know that strictly speaking, the M1 carbine isn't a subgun and .30 carbine isn't a pistol round, but they're close enough for me. :) And I don't want a Thompson 1927 A-1 since A) I don't like the vertical foregrip, and B) I don't like paying over $100 for a big, heavy drum that only holds 10 rounds (which is the only "proper mag for that gun ;) ).

Vector Arms Uzi (MSRP $595.00)

Kahr/AO Thompson M1 (MSRP $1041.00)

Valkyrie Arms Sten Mk.II or Mk.III (Mk. II MSRP $645.00, Mk.III $575.00)

Or something else... ?

I voted for the Thompson but I have the first three.

The Carbine is probably the most useful but the Thompson and UZI are fun to shoot.
I've been shooting the UZI the last couple days.

I agree with the previous post. The M1 Carbine is going to be the most capable. It's light, accurate, powerful and has good ergonomics.

The Thompsons are very heavy from what I understand. It would be my second choice, but IMO, a pistol caliber carbine needs to be light and handy.

The others are really just range toys without full auto capability. The NFA barrel restrictions, short sight radius and poor ergonomics (except for maybe the Uzi) greatly hinder their usefullness as effectice semi-autos.

The Thompson is 14 pounds with a loaded 30 round magazine.

The UZI is 10 pounds with a loaded 25 round magazine.
(without the scope mount).

The Carbine is 6 pounds with a loaded 15 round magazine.
(with the Red Dot sight but without the bipod)

The Thompson is fun and "very cool" but expensive and very heavy.

The UZI is fun, "cool" and cheap to shoot.

The Carbine is fun (especially full auto), costs a little more than the Thompson to shoot (unless you reload) and is a better long range gun than the UZI or Thompson and shoots the most powerful round.
The cost is cheaper than the other two guns and cheap to keep running. For instance a complete new GI bolt is selling for about $65.
If something breaks or wears out, just replace the part and keep shooting.

I wasn't really going for... what do you call it... a "good reason" or "efficiency" or "usefulness..." :p

I'm pretty surprised that there are no votes for the Uzi, Grease Gun, or Sten.

In order of coolness factor I would've guessed:
1) Thompson
2) Uzi
3) Grease Gun
4) Sten
5) M1 Carbine

*shrug*

Don't smoke me too bad if this is outta line, but I have a Universal M1 carbine for sale listed here . Save you close to 50% on that Kahr & it is a ton of fun to shoot. Heck, at that price maybe you can get the HH6 to ok buying two guns...

Oh, and for the record, the Thompson is the only one I would choose over a M1 carbine from your list.

How about a Beretta 1918/30 carbine?
Pretty looking gun, 9mm Luger (not Largo) 12.5" barrel, and has a bayonet:cool:

Saw one of these a month or so ago, but haven't had any luck locating one for myself.

I voted for the Kahr m1 carbine as it seems to be the most useful and the best buy for the buck. If we were talking full auto my suggestion would be totally different, but in semi form the carbine tops my list. The thompson sounds fun too, but If I get one Id seriously consider paying the transfer tax for the proper barrel length. It may not be full auto, but at least it would look like the original.

Oh, just for pure coolness...

I'd get the Uzi because it shoots cheap ammo and looks cool. I just couldn't handle the cheap stamped design of the Sten or Greasegun.

The carbine would be my second choice.

OK, I have to change my vote to the UZI.
I've been shooting my IMI B Model the last couple days and I forgot how much fun it is.
Trying different sights, Red Dot, 4x scope, open, etc.

I rigged my AR15 shell catcher to work on the UZI so I don't lose most of my brass in the grass.
That's the only problem with my back yard range, the grass eats my fired brass.:)

Today or tomorrow if I shoot the Thompson or Carbine I may have to change my vote again.:D

In full auto, the Thompson, then the Uzi would get my vote (have shot both).

In semiautomatic, the 16" Thompson is too heavy for what it delivers. The long barreled Uzi just looks odd.

I'd get the Kahr carbine.
