Im getting a new duck gun, both in advantage max 4 and under 500 but I cant decide which one. benelli supernova and the stoeger m 2000. I really wanted a semi auto but they are all to expensive and the stoeger is in my price range. the benelli looks like a great gun but its a pump and this gun is for ducks and i would like a semi auto. which gun do you guys think would be a better choice?

How about a used 1100? You can generally find them on the market in your price range. Another option is a used 11-87. Remingtons are good serviceable guns and most people tend not to shoot them a lot. I broke down several years ago and got a browning Gold for like $900, but these days you can't generally have one new for under $1000. Another option is maybe to look towards the other used older guns like the Browning Auto-5, or some of the other older Brownings like the A500R or G. You might even find a used Beretta.

Otherwise if you are looking for new, the Remington 870 has been a reliable gun in the duck blind as has the old reliable Mossberg 500. Pumps can be just as fast or more so that auto's and tend to be more reliable. I'm going to start my duck season with a 20 year old 20 gauge 870 Wingmaster.

I have a Benelli Ducks Unlimited Edition Nova and it has served me well. One big advantage is the ability to use any length shell. Never had one function problem and it cycles plenty fast. I personally wouldn't go with a Semi-auto for a duck gun. Too many wet nasty conditions that could cause problems.

My $.02. In that price range you can either get a quality pump gun that will run for years without issue or a cheap autoloader that may have jaming problems and can break at any time. In the long run, a high quality pump gun will probably serve you better than a cheap auto-loader. Buy the pump now and hold off on the auto until you can afford a good one.

I use a 25 year old 1100 that has had the hell shot out of it ( some times I think that helps ) . Just last week I dropped it in the swamp . Dumped the water out of it and went on my way with no problems .

With that said , I think RNB65 has the right idea . Unless you can aford to get a good auto . I would get a pump .

Spend another $200 and get a SuperX2. Mine has been as reliable as any pump gun I have ever had, but I only have 30K rounds throught it so the problems could start any day:rolleyes: . The single best shotgun I have ever had and I have been through more than a few.
