I'm thinking about getting a Ruger P345 and though I like the blued finish better, I was wondering what exact advantages might be gained from the stainless. My grandfather has a blued revolver and I remember him saying something to the effect of merely touching it necessitates him having to clean it. Is the same applicable to any blued finish, or is it more due to the age of said revolver? (its easily 40 or so years old). If stainless will prevent some amount of hassle i'd probably kick in the extra twenty or so (my poor miserly sensibilities!). Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have a great affinity towards stainless steel, though I love the beauty of a royal blue. I just got to the point where blued finishes just didn't make any sense. Some people have body chemistries that literally eat into standard carbon steel. Blued steel tends to rust with little provocation, while stainless simply is not a problem.

Early stainless had a tendancy to gaul. That's no longer a problem. So the question isn't why stainless, it's why not?

My dads older SW wheelguns in blue always left marks that I felt needed to be wiped really quick, just to make it look nice. Now my stainless guns dont need that and my Sigs in Nitron and others dont need that either.

I say buy stainless !!!

Another vote for stainless. You'll never have to worry about the finish.

You can't say that with a blued weapon.
