I recently acquired a Ruger SP101; the trigger is OK but I've read that re-springing with Wolff reduced power springs can yield trigger pulls that are quite an improvement. If I order the shooters pack (which includes a 9, 10 and 12 lb hammer spring), which hammer spring should I try first to go with the 8 lb trigger return spring? If it makes a difference, most of the ammo being run thru it will be my reloads, using WSP primers. Thanks in advance!

Might as well start light and work up until you get 100% reliable ignition.

And not just with your handloads using Win primers.

They are a little easier to set off then CCI, or many factory loads.

But the bottom line is, it must be 100% reliable with anything you put in it.

Better to error on the heavy trigger side then the mis-fire side!!

While you have it apart look for and remove all of the burrs that Ruger leaves in their guns. That will do as much (or more) for the trigger pull than lightening up the springs. Look carefully in the bore in the trigger guard where the trigger return spring rides. Usually pretty nasty stuff gets left in there. I usually start with the middle weight springs and see how it works. The lightest springs will usually cause problems with some brands of primers and/or cause the trigger to reset in slow motion.

Drail - thanks for that advice as well. I will make sure those areas are cleaned up as needed.

FWIW, I think I am going to maintain the 4 lb delta from the factory springs (10 lb trigger return, 14 lb hammer) and use the 8lb trigger return and the 12 lb hammer springs in the kit, and deburring as needed. I will report back with the results.

My grandma has the SP101, and I put the lightest springs in it for her. It makes a world of difference. I also lightly cleaned up some of the internal parts.
