Why Are My .45 ACP Cases Too Short?

If a reloader WANTS to spend extra time doing things like this they should if they believe it makes their ammo more accurate. As for me, I feel it is beyond a point of diminishing returns and not worth it with 45 ACP, 9MM and the like. I cannot tell the difference with my old eyes, body, and firearms. You should do whatever floats your boat and enjoy the process as a reloader IMHO.

BTW I tried trimming pistol brass as an experiment when I started reloading and quickly decided to stop because I found no measurable improvement. YMMV:scrutiny:

Here is someone who found autoloading case length affects accuracy:

http://www.leverguns.com/articles/ta..._reloading.htm

Strange. He lists the variation in length for each headstamp. Only "Chinese" 9mm cases have a range of length that includes 0.750. His longest measured Speer case was 0.745. Then somehow, he did all his test groups with Speer brass, and the 0.750" was the most accurate.

He must have got the last brass stretcher at the hardware store. Cuz when I asked, they were all out. :)

Absolutely correct!

These articles are talking about extremely small changes in impact of the bullet. If you are shooting fast reaction targets like plates, this is not going to help. This will help if you can make every shot with a clean bore and chamber because a small piece of grit will cause the case to seat differently every time and this throws all that hard work out the window!

I shoot bullseye. I am a 280(on the 300 NM course of fire) shooter. I reload for bullseye. I have never trimmed a pistol case, but it for my 38s or 45. My scores dont seem to suffer nor does the accuracy of my loads.
