I have one, 4-14X40 Tactical calibrated for .223.

I found a better use (at the time) for my Leupold VXIII tactical, so I took it off the gun and put on the Springfield, thinking, "Well it is calibrated for .223 match ammo, so it should be cool.."

I have been so disappointed in the way it perfomed that I haven't even fired the rifle in a couple of years.

I was just wondering, does anyone know what exactly it is about them that makes them suck?

I really like the concept. I like the look. I like everything about the scope except that it just doesn't perfom well enough. Groups sizes almost tripled with this scope.

Is it something I can maybe have fixed by sending it back under their lifetime warranty or is this as good as it gets? Anyone evcer send one back and see an improvement?

Unfortunately Springfield Armory scopes do not have a reputation for durability or quality of construction. I suspect your scope may have something loose internally. Even a cheap $29 Tasco or Barska scope (that is functioning correctly and holding zero) should not affect your groups that much. Send it back to Springfield for repair under the warranty.

You might have just gotten a bad one, or other issues are at work...I've had a 1st Generation Govt Model 4x14x56mm and a 6x40mm for years, and haven't had a single problem with either of them. The 1st gen is used on a DS Arms FAL, in Leupold QRW rings over early DSA cover mount...when I remove and reattach via the rings, the scope ALWAYS returns to zero. The rifle easily and consistently shoots sub-nickel-sized groups at 100 yards using Port ball ammo, off a bipod, btw.

The 6x is on my Savage M10FPLE, again- no problems over years of use. I'm thinking of flipping this scope over to another FAL, a carbine. The Savage could use a higher magnification scope...it misses its Leupold VariX II 3x9x50mm.

Get on the horn to Springfield Armory, they should take care of you. -FNR.

I agree dumped mine years a go. one thing that did help as I recal
there was some sort of slide ring on the variable that when slid
exposed revealed three set screws that could be tightened to
take the slop out of the crosshairs (they move with the eye piece)
The scope will print some tight groups after this but was too
fragile for my taste.

I watched this topic for a while and there was no response so I forgot about it.

I listed the scope on ebay about a half hour ago, and I did not have a picture of it. I did a google search for "Springfield Armory 4-24X40 Tactical Scope", and guess what the first result was? LMAO!!!!! This thread. ROFLMAO!!!!

So I read the responses and figure maybe I should cancel the auction and send it back to springfield armory and get it tweaked.

Thanks everyone!

Spoke to Springfield Armory today, got RMA number, will advise thread once it comes back and I get to give it a bang.

Thanks all!

Those scopes are made by an outfit called Hakko out of Japan. back when Hakko's site was still up they had a new day/night unit. I would have killed the president of paraguay with a fork for one. Now I have money and Hakko has disappeared from the world, but springfield still has their scopes for sale. how do I get the badass Hakko?
