Why does everything have a scope?

"Skeet Shooters can do it 25 times in a row in 8 different positions. "

I heard of someone once, but cannot remember the details, who shot with a rifle still in the making, that handled like a shot gun, before it had it's scope mounts fitted and hit his mark. He just looked down the barrel and fired. It may have been my Dad's rifle - it was a natural pointer. Once the scope was fitted, it lost it's character - comb was too low and slim.

I have a scope on one 25-06 deer rifle, one Ruger Mk II .22LR target pistol and my version of the M21 Sniper Weapon System. All of my other firearms are iron sights only. Including my AR-15. :D

I need a scope on all my rifles because my eyes are old and tired. I can still see the sights on my hand guns.... barely. :)

I'm pretty pragmatic. A scope enables me to see better. My AR, lever action carbine and most of my mil-surps are iron sighted and that suits me just fine......Essex

Jack O'Connor - paraphrased from pgs 124-126
"The Rifle Book" 3rd edition Revised, 1978 Knopf publishers

"Advantages of the telescopic sight"

Magnification - reduces natural error of aim;

Telescopic sight puts sights and target on the same optical plane;

Light Gathering Power - The field of view is much brighter than with the naked eye.

If you don't know Jack, you don't know Jack.

I think it depends on the gun. I love my 1885 high wall with irons and a peep sight...I would never mount a scope on that. My bolt action hunting rifles get scopes though. Call me crazy but certain guns beg for a scope and others look like they should have irons.....

Scopes are great

for precision shooting over long range.......that being said, irons require more skill and practice to use, but can be very accurate, and are general faster and easier to use on running game. Every tool has it's purpose gentlemen (and ladies:D), one thing does not necessarily make the other worse or better.
C'mon:neener:

When you can buy decent small scopes for under $10 that will shoot a bullseye out at 50 yards, it's hard for me to justify using iron sights.

I dunno....

Why do Car makers offer newer and newer accessories, like GPS navigation, On Star, radial Tires... any color other than black.

Because people want them.
and they sell cars.

So, thats why people like scopes, forearms grips, bipods, etc. They aren't trapped in Fuddytown.

I like the idea of optics on anything but my SAW. Even then I'm sure they could redesign the M145 to make it more user friendly, but I still don't see the point of having optics on an point of aim/area of impact weapon. I feel it doesn't contribute anything to the lethality of the weapon. Perhaps a luminous front sight post and a ladder rear sight for compensating long range trajectory would be an improvement.
