I am hoping to get a good list of the causes of a failing republic. If you don't believe that the republic is failing please post to the thread "Is the republic failing? What is the evidence?"

I believe the republic is failing. I think that it is because most people do not want to be responsible for their actions, and that most people are terrified of others doing things that they would not do. I believe most people want safety. So they elect people who promise them these beautiful things.

The only good solution I have heard so far is the Free State Projecters. I have though at great length and cannot promise to move with them, so I have not signed up. I am still seriously considering it.

I do not believe it is time for the cartrige box solution yet, so lets not discuss the feasability of this.

As crazy as the world is, I think the US is slowly swinging back to the Right, for better or worse.

I think if you turn on the TV or read the newspaper, it looks like we're doomed, but if you look around you, there are enough good people with common sense for me to keep my hopes up.

God bless you, you little tactically enlightend, optimistic, gun nut you.

Me I fall in the cynical camp that believes that God simply did not put enough poisonous animals on the planet in relation to stupid people. Hey I could be wrong but my numbers and graphs don't seem to say so.

Yes, God did create enough poisonous critters (at least here in the southwest) but we have those silly animal control people, paid for by my tax dollars, who I have to call instead of offing a coyote with my Benelli :banghead:

With all due respect to animal control people, I have two friends that are animal control, great folks, both gun people. I just think it's ridiculous my elected representatives took away the option for me to whack a critter myself and I have to pay for them to do it. But it's the republic.

Cslinger, I agree with you, and unfortunately the politicians use our dollars to get votes from people who don't like to pick up their own candywrappers.

But I'm surrounded by enough good people, THR included which helps me stay sane, to let me think there still is hope.

There's too much dependence on government, especially the Federal Government.
There's too much meddling by government in the affairs of those who don't want to depend on government except for "...the common defense," ...issuing "letters of Marque and Reprisal," and other Constitutionally mandated areas.

A representational republic is different from a democracy. If the two are confused the republic is in danger of failing.

Easy. Because people are lazy. They let it happen to them. just look at all the conveniences we have right now. Computers (and no one even remembers what a modem is), satellite TV, Gameboys, A/C, cars, etc., etc. You get my drift.

Nothing THAT bad has happened to startle the sheep and I am afraid that when it does, they will be too far assimilated to do anything about it. Me, I plan on going kickin' and screamin'.
