I've noticed that even using the same length bbl that an AR-15 with an AK-74 style muzzel brake sounds much louder than the standard birdgage AR flashider. Anyone know why this is?
The AK brake has some HUGE gaps on the side and the front piece tends to reverse the flow of gasses and noise back versus simply venting on the radial axis. I find the Bushmaster Y-comp with the ports that actually vent rearward to be even louder.
the ak-74 muzzle brake is designed to control barrel climb during full auto fire. the gases exit the muzzle and strike the rear of the front plate, they then drive the muzzle forward, they are then turned back to exit the side cutouts...it is the same way compensators work on pistols
