Why use a Picatinny adapter for a bolt action?

Well, as much as I am fond of my CZ 527 7.62x39mm carbine, it has been a bit of a problem getting glass on it. Funds, mostly, but one thing was the closeness of the bolt handle to the rear bell.
Enter the scope a friend sent, a Bushnell 4-12x40 AO. A bit large for a carbine like this, but I'm grateful for what I get, since I can't afford the nice scope I'd like sometime, and this little rifle begs to be shot.
Down to the gunsmith for a proper mounting, and lo and behold, the scope will not allow the bolt handle to fully clear. Out comes the oddest accesory I own, the picatinney rail adapter from CZ-USA. One set of low mount Weaver rings, and voila!

Give enough clearance to work the bolt, but not too high, I'm hoping. Boresight's done and hopefully, weather permitting, off to the range tomorrow. After she's sighted in with regular ammo, these need to be tested. :)

While I agree that they don't look as good on some bolt guns, a P-rail can be just as handy on a bolt-rifle as anything else. On some actions, with some optics, the mounts aren't spaced properly. A picatinny rail can solve this problem. Additionally it allows you to use QR mounts that are made for a P-rail, though this is less of a concern because similar products are available for Weaver type mounts. Note that Weaver and picatinny parts are not entirely compatible. Picatinny rings cannot be mounted to a Weaver rail, and while the opposite condition (like you have on your rifle) will work the rings will not be tight in the slots (not a big deal except for QR or high recoil applications).

:)

There is a bolt mod that can be done to help with the bolt/ocular clearance. I don't have a problem with my 527's due to ring heights and scope combinations.

I've seen the bent bolt, but I wanted to avoid any permanent modifications. Sighted it in this morning, good crystal clear picture, only made it to 50 yards due to the long range being occupied...oh well.
