Why Women Won’t Go to the Shooting Range

I work at an indoor range that is owned by three major members. We the public have access to it on certain days of the week. The women's restroom is all marble and has amenities that would rival any major hotel. The men's on the other hand.....
Not complaining, just pointing not all ranges don't treat women well.

I've met women who just won't go behind a tree. And I've met women who have leaned against the bumper of my truck to pop a squat while I've been in the driver seat.

They're all different. There's little things you can do like mentioning they may not want to drink a 24 oz latte because they're going to have to pee. Also, when she says she is going to need to go, that means you finish the anmo box you are in and out gen pack up.

Remove the fun, and the woman will remove herself in a lot of cases.

I actualy think it is the noise. If someone has a .44 mag in the next lane, my wife will not have fun. Even doubling up with plugs and muffs.

public women's rooms are always so much worse.

TRUTH!! In my teens I was a janitor at my church/grade school. The men's rooms just needed swept, mopped, and the porcelain wiped down but in addition to that the women's rooms always had shredded trash all over the floors and the stall walls always needed wiped down. Every. Single. Day. Didn't matter if it was the kids, faculty, or public restrooms used during sporting events, the women's rooms were always downright disgusting.

Got a buddy that's a janitor at a high school, he said it's the same way there.

Ive been in a plant with 400 employees (probably 65-75 percent female) for 20 years, in management for 2/3 of it. It runs 24/7 365. I can verify the above comment about the women's being worse. The cleaners are subcontracted but I'm the one who they complain too. Out of the 20 or so cleaners we have had in that time I've got the exact same complaints from every one.

I figured the women would complain about the gawkers or harassing first. Just like bars or pool halls. Same reason most of us will drive by 3 planet fitnesses to get to a nasty poorly maintained power lifting gym. People tend to lose focus when the opposite sex shows up. The attention has a time and place but when someone is training or trying to focus isn't the time. Being an a-hole or wearing headphones doesn't even get the point across.

I’m gonna have to call baloney on this one. I am all for cleaner restrooms. I invited my wife last week to a Cadillac gun range that costs thousands to join (I was a guest). She knew it was the best around and still didn’t want to come. Men and women are different. Not all want to go shooting. Some do of course. If women were afraid of the restrooms they would never get on an commercial airliner. And they use the lavs just as much as men.

I agree. I can't imagine who/what women the author of this article talked to, to reach this conclusion. If they won't go there only because of the public restroom, they don't get out much or go anywhere... or they live in a completely different world that I.

I can interpret a slant to that article too. Granted that none of us wants to find that the restroom is an experience of a trash dumpster so it may be a point of contention. I ask my wife if she wants to send lead down range, she says no. One part is that she doesn't find being around the 44 mag and .223 type weapons that the blast startles her. She works in a very quiet environment so the operating noise of a gun range is not her body's way of relaxing. For myself I choose off hours to shoot in relative quieter times.

The indoor range I frequent has a mix of females probably at a 1:6 ratio. The restroom is spacious and clean. The 4 years I've been there regularly I've used the toilet maybe twice. Always wash my hands following and the soap dispenser is filled, electric hot air dryer working. There is a counter top sized appropriately to put ones shooting bag and similar gear on that will hold about 3-4 bags if 12x24".

Some activities may not be of general female interest.

Edit: The wife relays with consistency how sloppy females are when using the restroom. They squat on the seat so it has foot prints and urine all over including the floor. They drop their feminine products and leave them on the floor along with diapers, wads of toilet paper... Women are contributing to the issue too. They may feel "it's not my job, let someone else clean it up" and make-leave a mess behind.

Regarding the ladies relieving themselves, several companies make plastic "funnels" shaped to fit female parts and sized to drain far enough away to not get their clothes wet. These funnels allow women to stand up, so they can avoid dropping their pants and squatting. Of course, they will want some seclusion outside.

The best one I have seen is the SheWee, made in England. I got my wife one and she loves it!

It's good to be a man,,,
Reason # 4: The world is your urinal.

Every year at the meeting of my range club this is brought up,,,
Every year something is promised,,,
And never followed up on.

Yeah, the main point was made in this article and industry analysis a few years ago. We don't need the bathroom humor.
