Yup, the guy who gave us Doyle in 2002 is going to announce on Monday that he's running as a write in candidate. Here's the email I received:

Ed Thompson to Announce Write-In Campaign for Governor Monday at 8:30 AM?

Ed Thompson will reportedly begin his weekly radio commentary on Monday morning with the following comment:

„Let me tell you right up front that I‚ve decided to run for Governor tomorrow, and I‚m asking all of you for your help to make this happen. I know this is short notice but I‚ve got a plan and I‚ll tell you all about it when I come back with „Just a Little Common Sense.‰‰

You can listen to Ed‚s radio commentary at: http://www.b945country.com/modules/web/index.php/id/1

Ed is also booked to be on the Mitch Henck show at 9 AM on Monday, November 6.

I like Ed Thompson, and it was a real thrill to see a Libertarian pull some decent numbers. But this is just too close, and too much at stake. Doyle needs to get gone, or we're never gonna get CCW through.

Sorry, Ed. I'm voting for Mark Green.

I suspect that he waited too long to get in the race, and write-in candidates have far less impact then they would if they were on the ballot. Most people won't take the time or make the effort to write in a name, unless they are really, really commited.

At least we can hope that's the case...:)

Sounds like you boys in the land of cheese might get limburgered. I sure hope not.:fire:

Can't do much, but my fingers are crossed.

Ed Thompson is a fruitcake. But he pulled 10% of the vote in 2002, which gave us Jim Doyle.

I was working a gun show in La Crosse in 2002 when he came through to "press the flesh." He had an entourage of guys with him that looked like some para-military organization: combat boots, 5.11 pants, black shirts, black hats. A really weird bunch.

While we're on the topic... I'm coming off of midterm season, so I've had nary a spare moment to follow politics. How're we looking going into the election? Are the Reps gonna keep the legislature, and is Green gonna beat Doyle?

Isn't this the guy who's brother is the CEO of ADSX (Ithink) the company who wants to rfid chip everyone? The Thompson guy has gotten himself chipped (so he claims) to demonstrate how good it is..... yech.

Mark of the beast.

No, Ed Thompson's brother is Tommy Thompson, former governor of Wisconsin, and former HUD secretary under Bush.

Thompson has now issued a statement saying that his write-in candidacy was just a joke, although he says that people should write in his name if they want to.

Stauffenberg, the elections are just about a coin toss. Doyle has a small lead over Green, but within the margin of error in every poll. Internal polling shows the same thing.

There's a chance that Republicans may lose seats in the Senate. There are four hotly contested races: Senator Dave Zien's, Senator Tom Reynolds', Senator Ron Brown's, and the campaign of Bill McReynolds against Democrat John Lehman for the seat being vacated by retiring Republican Senator Kathy Stepp.

If the Republicans lose just three of these, the Senate will return to Democrat control, and we're screwed.

Senator Dave Zien is having a very tough race. The Democrats have now spent roughly $500,000 against him. On top of that , Wisconsin Gun Owners has spent an as yet unknown amount of money running radio ads against Dave Zien.

The Assembly should stay in Republican control, but we may lose seats there. The Democrats are spending a lot of money to defeat Republican Representative Mark Pettis. Wisconsin Gun Owners is also going after Pettis.

(Does anyone here notice a pattern? In the two races where the Democrats are spending the most money to defeat Republican incumbents, Wisconsin Gun Owners is giving the Democrats a hand).

Lets get a P.I. :)
