A local news channel (Fox Channel 6 Milwaukee) is doing an exclusive on the "Gun Show Loophole". Unfortunately, I didn't write down the time/date it will be shown. I believe it is sometime this week. (2/16 - 2/22) If anyone has information on this news special please reply.

I am curious to what supposed "loophole" they are referring to? It is legal in Wisconsin to make a private sale of a firearm. I wonder if this is what they are referring to. (Private sale lacking background check.) I purchased a rifle from a dealer at a show about a year and a half ago, and I had to go through the normal procedure of background check just like buying at a gunshop. Interesting.

Of course for dramatic effect, one of the reporters will be purchasing an ASSAULT RIFLE. (At least that is what the commercial is saying.)

I guess my reason for starting this thread is mostly out of concern. I frequently go to gun shows in the Milwaukee area, and do not want to see them shut down for any reason. I for one have never seen anything shady go down, but who knows? This news exclusive looks like a lot of lush, green grass for the sheeple, if you will. :(

The Mayor, if you watched the show, you'll know otherwise. It was as biased a piece of trash as any local anti-gun piece ever broadcast.

What was truly surprising was that the reporter and cameraman were able to get into the show at all. In the past, the show's organizer (who was on camera for a few seconds) showed reporters to the door with just a little bit of physical oomph.

Gun show loophole. Assault weapons. DC sniper. Nazi flags. No questions about the purchase. Most gun show dealers don't have licenses.

All that was missing was the truth.

Thanks Monkeyleg,

I apologize to all for starting a thread that someone was already covering. Just trying to get the info out there. We all know how much power the media holds. I was out and about and only caught the end of the report, darn it, I wasn't sure when the story was going to be on. So, did the report hold any water? It looked like they were out to totally demonize gun shows. I did manage to catch the follow up story on the feds and background checks. Thanks for posting. Did the reporter make the purchase from a private seller? If you wouldn't mind, briefly explain what the gun show portion of the story was about. Thanks.

I just found the link to the story from Bastiat's thread. Great. I'm sure they will try to eliminate all private sales of firearms now. It's kind of funny how they target a gun show for this, considering how many private sales go on outside of gun shows. I'm sure it was because they knew they could find an "assault rifle" readily available. I can't say I'm really shocked by the report. Pretty much what I expected. Too bad. :(

Meathammer, Channel 6 is at the bottom of the local stations for ratings. What they broadcast at 9pm on Sunday nights is probably watched by so few people that the number of THR's who tuned in doubled their audience.

And I'm not concerned--for now--about any "gun show loophole" bill being passed. The Republicans control both houses, and senate gun bills go to the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is chaired by Senator Dave Zien. He's the author of and lead cheerleader for the concealed carry bill in Wisconsin.

On the assembly side, Representative Scott Suder is chairman of the Criminal Justice committee, which is where gun bills go in that house. His office is adorned with NRA flags, paintings, statues, pictures of him with NRA leaders--he even has a large, round NRA rug in his inner office.

But if the balance of power should shift to the Dem side while Doyle's still in office...
